So what? I'm talking about you saying your career might end for showing up 5 minutes late for your job.

It may not completely end, but its definitely in bad taste.  Show up 10 minutes early, its basic work ethic.  When you move up the ladder and interact with VIP's 5 minutes sure as hell matters.  Why?  because it's not just you that they have to meet with, its everyone else throughout the day.  And if everyone is 5 minutes late, it adds up.

Koolaid if you lose your career over 5 minutes in retail then it's your fault for not making yourself an asset to your company.

retail finance isnt retail.

and again. if you agree to your superior that you will be at a certain place at a certain time, you better be there.

and to cry like a toddler when you didnt get what you wanted because you broke the agreement is bullshit.

i am by no means a bad student and take my schooling very seriously. i failed calculus my first semester out here. i could give you a list of things that happened that led to me failing the class, but in the end i just should've a) communicated with my professor as soon as i started having difficulty and b) studied harder. it happens. and really, i think there's a lesson to be learned in failure at anything. generally speaking, my greatest failures have also been my greatest learning experiences.

op, i'm sure you feel shitty. i know i did. but chances are you can do a grade exclusion if it's the first time so it won't count against your gpa. that's what i did. speak with your advisor. and don't give up. that's what pussies do. school, and life in general, isn't for pussies.

Upon reading the entirety of this thread, I have the following comments:

1) Most college professors will be lenient upon emailing/coming to their office/calling them after being late to a test and/or missing an important class.  This is, of course, supposing that you've kept in contact with them from the beginning and established a good relationship; i.e. you haven't just sat in the back while talking to your friends, or skipped class while supposing that they'll never miss you in the midst of a giant lecture hall.  They won't just magically become your bff after you frantically email them after sleeping in two hours late past the midterm final if you haven't spoken to them since you bumped into them in the cafeteria line and halfheartedly remembered to ask them for an extra copy of the syllabus.  :rofldrunk:

2) Fuck college.  Drug dealing is where it's at.  Prison is for pussies, you'll never get caught.  :smile2:

:ilold:

In the future, try getting to important appointments fifteen, or better yet thirty, minutes early.  It's a harsh lesson to be learned, to be sure, but better now than later, no?

I completely missed a final once due to a broken down car.  There is no way I could have made it.  I had a high A in the class and ended with a C.  It sucks, but sometimes there is nothing you can do.  You cannot plan for every eventuality.  Its too bad you cant drop the class, I couldn't either.  I had to take the C.

Can you be more specific?

Over time I've come to recognize that things don't always go my way; accordingly, I plan my time in the eventuality that things don't always go my way and leave ample room for such catastrophes as natural disasters/epic hangovers/roommates turning psychotic and barricading the room while proclaiming that they're Jesus Christ.  :rocket:

If you are unable to plan for an even bigger eventuality, you've simply failed in becoming on sufficiently good terms with your professor that he or she will understand.   Or else they're simply an asshole.  But something tells me that isn't the case.

I left twice as early as I normally do, which apparently wasn't enough time, but it should have been.

I do argue with this professor a lot, he doesn't like me. It's respectful arguing though, mainly just questioning. Half the semester has been spent on him trying to prove why his beliefs are the correct beliefs, and most of my classmates suck his dick. I was raised a conservative christian, not that I haven't changed, but his far left liberal antics piss me off.
