Can jars colonize from the inside out?

I inoculated 10 jars on thursday (4daysago) and there is still zero sign of any colonization. Is it possible that they are colonizing from the middle out?

4 days is still pretty early to see any colonization give it around 2 weeks and if you still don't see anything toss them.
as for the colonizing inside out it is possible, if you injected your spores right in the center of the cake.

Well i shook them after the inoculation so it's possible that the spores are in the middle.

dont shake your jars...... unless its grains that are 30% colonized dont shake your jars... if its pf tek then you could cause the dry verm layer to change locations and allow contams to your cake.......

Yeah, I've definitely had WBS jars colonize from the inside out. Two out of the last batch I did didn't look like they were colonized at all after three weeks, so I gave them a little shake to see if they were slimy. Nope! There was a raquetball-sized lump of mycelium right in the middle of both of them that for some reason wasn't touching the surface at all. I shook them enough to break up the mycelium and redistribute, and they turned out just fine.

That is really nice to hear. I am getting nervous here. Patience is so hard in this endeavor.

I would consider beginning to get nervous if you see no growth ten days from now. While I've had growth within four days of inoculation before, I considered it a one-off and a minor miracle.
Patience only applies if you don't throw yourself at the hobby head-first like so many of us here have. Stop looking at your jars and start looking for a place to put your next dozen. Tomorrow's a good time to cook, right?

I'd say to give them even longer... Hell, don't throw them out until you see contams, or need the jars.
