Cold Pasteurization Tek
    #19188237 - 11/25/13 06:23 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Hi,

I've read about the cold pasteurization teks (cold water 7 days/lime/dishsoap). I have some hay that will be stored until May or June when it will be inoculated. Would it benefit from being stored long term submerged in water, or would this adversely effect the pasteurization of the substrate?

i dont think it would.. cold water pasteurization takes 7 to 15 days anyway.. but i would wait till you need to use it. you could use bleach also. i wouldn't use cold pasteurization for smaller grows tho.

My rationale for cold pasteurizing it throughout storage is reduced contamination load due to less exposure time. This is in the context of larger-scale production.

straw gets exposed to alot of contam spores before you get your hand on it soo it shouldn't make too much of a difference....
