How long is to long??

PE(fully colonized then dunked & rolled), SGFC(built to spec), misting & fanning 3-4 times daily, lighting 12hrs on 12hrs off.
So cakes have been in SGFC for 2 months and only 1 pin/abort as shown in pic. Already dunked cakes a second time 2 weeks ago and still nothing. They have no mold that I can see and no funky smell. I don't have a hydrometer to read humidity because already went through 2 of them. First was a digital that read 95% after a few hours of cakes being in SGFC, but then got it wet and it stopped displaying any readings. Next was analog but it never went over 60%, even after testing it in a damp towel, then a bathing room full of steam. So I gave up on hydrometer for now but I have followed the tek for preparing the SGFC for fruiting:1/4 holes, 2in apart, all 6 sides, 4 inches of perlite, ect.... Now let me get to my questions. Unless I missed something should I give up on these cakes? Is 2 months to long? Even with no mold that I can see is there something else that could be stopping them from fruiting? This is my first grow but I spent a lot of time reading and researching all the steps from start to finish. I still have another spore syringe ready for second attempt, just want some advice on weather or not I should discard these.
Thanks for any advice.

Damn dude(josh.0)you just registered today and have more post then me. Hope I see some soon to. If not I have GT ready for next try but not going to try grain until I can at least grow on cakes. Back to OP, is 2 months to long? Assuming there is no contamination is there a point when the myc is just not active anymore? Or do I just continue to try and make conditions right for fruiting?

Noc new cakes with sterile procedure in a SAB. I suggest you inoc rye berries in qt jars with filtered lids if you have a PC. The rye gives you more (4x more)spawn per cc of spore solution and when they fully colonize you can break them all up into individual grains to either be spawned to some bulk substrate for fruits and prints, or g2g'd into 10 more jars if you'd like. Going past 3 g2g series will start to weaken the mycelium.
You can always keep taking your own prints and just make your own spore syringes and keep noccin jars with them, but you better be damn sure you make all your prints and syringes under extreme sterile conditions thats for sure. Get agar so you dont always have to go from spore>sterile media everytime. Since sporeprints are not sterile, there is never gaurunteed sterility when shooting spores into a jar of sterile media. Thats why we start from spores on agar and make transfers/isolate identified clean good myc edges onto other petris before we go to grain masters.
People have success just noccing spores into sterile media and letting it colonize, as thats what anyone who doesn't use agar is doing. Though you have to consider how clean these vendors are making their prints/syringes(in front of a flowhood most likely). As RR also said in another thread, if you dont use agar and just rely on vendors syringes everytime, you're letting someone else do your lab work for you. Well, not in those words but something like that. If you dont have a PC, get one; its a big thing in this hobby.

Hey man! I'm in a very similar situation here - pushing 7 weeks with 6 cakes in a SGFC built to spec. No sign of contam, no funky smells, did 2 dunks and all I've seen are some white dots of myc.
I just bought a PC and some rye berries and agar agar and built a SAB and nocc'd up another batch of jars. It's clear that if you enjoy the hobby then that's the way to go.
Hope you get something soon! It'll give me hope! I plan on crumbling mine into a flower pot with a house plant if they contam out on me, but until then mist + fan!

OregonMushys, thanks for taking the time to share this info. I do have a SAB and I'm very cautious with the sterilization process. That's why up until the fruiting process everything seemed to be on par with what I researched. You can see in the pics that nothing visually seems wrong with the cakes. So I'm wondering if there is a certain window of time you have to fruit before the cakes are not active? Or is it just a matter of creating the right conditions to trigger pins?
Thanks again for any info guys.

Yeah urthtown this sucks!!! Thought everything was going good and had dreams of plentiful fruiting cakes!! It is my first try so I'm not to discouraged. I'm going to build another SGFC because maybe every hole is not exactly 2 inches apart. I'll update in a couple weeks but in the mean time on to the next attempt.

it's all about conditions/genetics, stop handling them(not accusing you just pointing it out lol), check your temps, see if they feel light(need more moisture)(just pick one up), go over your pinning triggers and start something new in the mean time.

I'm with cronicr. There is no window, and you guys didn't miss an opportunity here. If it were one cake I'd say you got some shitty genetics, but with this many there's a problem with your conditions. Here's what to do:
1. Check your temperature. Aim for about 70-75F, 21-24C. A little in either direction doesn't hurt, and swings of as much as 5F or 3C outside of the range are not only okay--they're sometimes helpful. But if you're trying to fruit your cakes way, way outside that range you won't have success.
2. Check your moisture. This is the one my money is on, and I'm willing to bet your perlite is drying out and as a result so are your cakes. Put your shotgun in the shower and hose the whole thing down, cakes and all, until it leaks from the bottom and you're satisfied all the perlite is saturated with water, and then cover it and let it drip drain with something under the downhill side of it. Then just put it back wherever you were fruiting. Make sure your shotgun is elevated at least two inches from whatever it's sitting on by putting something under the corners, and then you're ready to start misting and fanning again.
Fan no less than three times a day. When you do so, stick your face in the shotgun and see if the cakes have little droplets of water on them. Use your eyeballs as a hygrometer, since they work much better than the two you wisely put where they belong (the garbage). If the little droplets are there, you don't need to mist. If they aren't, you do need to mist. Stick your finger in the perlite to make sure it's still wet and you don't have to hose it down again, and then you're good to go. The whole process should take literally ten seconds, but there's no need to rush it if you want to leave the lid off and spend some time bonding with your babies.
Don't sweat it. Keep 'em wet and keep 'em warm and you will get fruits.

Cronicr, thanks for the link, great info. Read a lot of threads on the subject but missed that one. Van Der griegen, thanks for answering my question about fruiting window. I did search a lot before starting this thread and found lots of mixed thoughts on temps. Most saying temp didn't matter and wasn't that important. The room that the sgfc is in is definitely below 70f and at night even lower. I'll rehydrate cakes and perlite, then get temp in the room up. Thanks again, not ready to give up on my babies just yet.

Definitely should not take that long to see any results. Which leads me to believe you need to scrap em all and start fresh. Just saying...If I didn't see anything for that long....my womanly patience would be gone!..I'd move on...to a new grow.
Best of luck!!

Damn that's some patience! I fruited a block of wbs with PE in a sandwich sized ziplok cased with pasturized verm. Set it in the bottom of a trashcan mini mono. Nothing to write home about. palm full. may e 10 fruits and 6 aborts. 2nd flush of 4 whole pins going now. I spawned another jar of PE on wbs to 5 qts mix of cow poo, compost, verm and coir and it has knots like a boy scout troop. I would think if my wbs gave a couple fruits those should have done something. Maybe its like Josh.O said and they don't like cakes. . .

Yeah.. As far as i know there is no window for fruiting. There are however conditions that will kill the mycellium such as temps above 90 etc. Depending on strain.
From what you were saying its deff your temp. You want to keep temps around 80-85 for colonization and ten degrees lower for fruiting for most strains that ive read about. Also make sure that you are doing the fanning and misting as free air exchange and evaporation rates are triggers for fruiting aswell. And did you add a 12hr light cycle when you started fruiting?
