Inconsistant lighting during colonization

I keep my jars on a closet shelf with the doors half open for them to get air. I always keep the blinds closed because it is very cold out. However I often walk into the room and turn on the light and grab something or do something for a few mins, turn it off and walk back out. Could this negatively impact the mycelium? I know that light is actually fine during colonization, some say its better than darkness. But I am concerned about the light going on and off all the time. They seem to be colonizing fine. It has been 14 days and they are maybe 65 percent colonized I'd guess, but I wanted opinions on this anyways.
Thanks in advance.
(p.s.) as a side question if I were to make another set of cakes for after my current ones, when would be the right time to noc them up as far as timing?

the 12/12 with ambient lighting is really to tell them that it's dark and time to grow but if they're that far ahead already you got nothing to worry about IMO

First question: they're fine Second question: personally I'd say right after your first flush, but with MS, YMMV, so pick a time, then adjust as needed as your hobby goes

What?
Mycellium grows during the dark too....it does not stop growing just because the lights went out.
In fact, the mycellium will grow more during the dark cycle than the light cycle....
Light has been proven beneficial during all stages of mycellium growth. Mushrooms like mammals have a circadian rhythm.
You want ambient/indirect light(on a 12/12 schedule preferably) for colonization and consolidation.
You want direct/intense 6500K light on a 12/12 schedule for fruiting.

Not at all....carry on.

Right away. If by some chance you have fully colonized cakes that start pinning and nowhere to fruit them you can place the jars in the fridge until you're ready to use them.

I colonize all my grains and substrates in the dark and they perform just as well as ones given "ambient light."

I'm using ambient room light on my fruiting stage and the cakes seem to be pinning just fine but kinda slow. What would be a good 6500k light to purchace for my fc? And when I'm watering/misting is there such a thing as too much water since mushrooms are 90% water?

has anyone ever seen or read anything regarding too much light? I work overnights and my roommate works days, so in any given 24 hour period, there is probably only 4 hours of dark. I sleep during the day, so they are getting ambient light from windows in adjacent room from growth area, then they get about 10 hours of the 6500k cfl bulbs from the time I wake up to the time I go to work. I have been wondering this for a while, does not seem to affect anything, just wanted to know if someone had a link or maybe some anecdotal info.

I leave really early in the morning and work very late into the night. My shrooms often get about 16 - 20 hours.
I dunno. Do you think they are suffering?
