Inoculation concern.

Hey all, I just inoculated, had a little problem with the syringes, the spores were pretty clumpy, even after vigorously shaking them into the smallest possible pieces I could lol. While I was knocking up my BRF cakes some of the holes got more than 1/4 cc...one of the holes actually got quite a bit almost 1 cc! Will that jars water content be thrown off? I used knocked up 10 jars, used 2 syringes. I have lil over 1 cc left in the one syringe and about a lil over 3 ccs in the other..them damn clumpy spores lol. Do ya guys think I'll be good?

Right on, thanks man! I was worried bc that was the last hole on that jar and BAM an entire 1 cc almost just unleashed into it lol.

Thanks brother! I cant believe how easy it is to over squeeze! I barely applied any pressure. I never knew spores could get clogged like that! I now know I'll try to inoculate alot slower next time so I can get closer the 1/4 per hole.

once you get into making your own syringes you will be able to avoid the problem, sounds like you may have had a bit too much air in there

Did I do something to cause the air? If so how can I prevent that next time? They were pretty full, past the 10 cc line. But I did not pull up on the syringe at all to suck in air, could air of went in threw the needle as I was shaking between jars?

Now that I think of it, I do recall a cpl spore chunks and solution falling into my sink while shaking between jars...hmmm!

naw sometimes when vendors or anybody for that matter make the syringes they leave some air in to help break the spores up, however sometimes it can make pushing the plunger a little diffrent and when you throw a clogg in the mix all of a sudden one innoc point gets blasted lol

I've had the same issue with some spore syringes I ordered from sponsors. No matter how hard I shook, and it's hard to shake really hard in a Still Air Box, but anyway, I had clumps come out in during my inoculation. I even accidently injected 2-3 cc's per jar in a couple of them trying to get the darn clumps out. It was all good in the long run...colonized just fine, so don't worry. Best of luck with your grow!

The worst thing that's going to happen with this cake is that it might finish before the others. No sweat, right? You're going to consolidate them for a week anyway.
In the future if you're worried about the moisture content of your cakes or grain jars, just eyeball them. If there's a pool of water at the bottom, then yeah, you're in trouble. But if the substrate absorbs the moisture or if there's just a few droplets against the glass, you're just fine.
