I'm not one but that's only because there's so much material to listen to, I just haven't heard it all. Hypothetically if one was going to ingest a psychedelic compound and listen a Grateful Dead playlist, what should be on that playlist, from some legit dead heads. I really wanna know, any really good shit I haven't heard, I wanna hear it, and then I might do this next time I decide to trip.

I would link some videos if it wasn't for the fact that I'm browsing on my phone but anyway my advice would be to find a whole live show and just listen to it from start to finish (one show that came to mind was a 1972 show that was held in Denmark which can easily be found on YouTube).
IDK I just find that the musical experience increases 10-fold by listening to a whole live show compared to listening to different songs from different shows but I know people just want to build up a playlist with different songs from different shows so check out this "Dark Star" to start you off on your playlist : https://archive.org/details/gd1970-02-02.121042.sbd.miller.gans.flac24

I completely agree.. I hate random songs while tripping. I like to get a vibe going and keep it going either with full sets or albums.
As for the dead, I am by no means as educated as alot of people, but I can reccomend live/dead. And infared roses. Both are live albums and are amazing. The latter is composed of multiple drum and space sets edited together. Also if you can find it "grayfolded" is comprised of live dark star performances meshed together, but its hard to find a good version of it. I've been meaning to actually order a hard copy. IMO you don't get the same feeling from listening to dead studio recordings as you do hearing them playing live.
On a side note: what are some of yalls favorite dead sets? Any links to quality recordings audio or video would be awesome!

Here you go.
Live shows are the way to go, it's the whole point, their live shows were what they were all about. Just trust me, trip out with this album full blast through headphones, you'll be glad you did.
This is a very psychedelic studio album, which still, consists mostly of live performances "mixed together". Amazing for tripping.
Okay, now, a personal favorite, a classic. Europe 72
All Grateful Dead is great for tripping, they are great anyway though!

I'm there with you. I liked the Dead, but wasn't huge on them. Then one day I was solo tripping my balls off on Acid in my house by myself, and I got this enormous craving for the Dead, had no clue why, wasn't a big fan. I made a playlist starting with Anthem of the Sun, then Europe 72. Anthem was the beginning and got my foot in the door, once Europe 72 started, that was it, fucking hooked. I'd drop Acid in my room at night, while everyone was asleep, just to blast the Dead in my headphones for 10 hours.
Needless to say, I still do.

Ever since then, I got into as much from them as I could. You start breaking into the countless shows they have recorded. It's really fun, I always want more from them, I can always listen to a show I haven't heard yet, it's an addiction.

Like Kief and Peace mentioned, Life Dead is great! I'd also recommend Fillmore West 1969 and this 9/28/75 show. It's one of my favs, and has the best Franklin's Tower I've heard.

This archive site is great, and you can download a lot of different shows for free!

if you are a GD noob then start with American Beauty then you are ready for Europe 72
after you break that in move on to live shows from the 60s to understand where they came from
then the 70s
then listen what happened in the 80s, cool sound in my opinion
and the 90s
look for top rated shows on Archive.org
good luck

Can't forget the classic Skull & Roses album.
To me, everything from the Dead is great. I do say though, that my favorite period of the Dead is anything from 1968 - 1975, I think most people would agree though. The early 70's were amazing for the Dead. Those jams in the late 60's however, they were something else. The thought of those guys tripping out, vibing musically like that, it's incredible to me.

This thread is full of beautiful suggestions.
Did anybody mention Shakedown Street? That's one of my favorites.

Lots of good suggestions here. I'm a huge fan, and agree with most of them. For me, however, I can't really stand listening to dead albums - it has to be live recordings, and not just samples of individual songs from different shows but a whole show in its entirety. I think it's because so much of what happens in their music takes a long time to develop, and every show has its own unique character.
Personally, if you're just getting started, I would go to the album Europe '72. From there, they cover a lot of "styles". Workingman's Dead and American Beauty are softer, folksier albums, Live/Dead is more raw, the Arista Years albums are later, more electric, funkier, and arguably more psychedelic. Shakedown borders on / has a disco feel (but is drop-dead, pun intended, awesome).
If you're going to jump into live dead, which is ultimately my recommendation, I think most people would say the early 70s stuff is most "accessible". You want soundboard recordings ("SBD") if possible, and can get them via torrent if you know where to look. Archive.org provides free, downloadable audience recordings but the quality is usually only mediocre.
Here's the deal for solo tripping: buy, rent, or steal a copy of any of the View From the Vault movies. They're entire live shows mostly from the 80s (which are awesome but underrated years, IMO). Pop one in about 45 minutes after your dose and you'll probably come to some sort of profound realization about how important the GD are musically and culturally both.
Oh, and there's this awesome "Grateful Dead Listening Guide" site that can recommend live shows from different eras that are good places to start, and a lot more, it's at www.deadlistening.com.
TLDR: Start with the album Europe '72. For tripping, highly recommend View from the Vault series, check out www.deadlistening.com for more ideas of where to start. It's all about live shows in their entirety.
