IF ALIENS CHECKED OUT EARTH.

I don't want to get into the ideas of what aliens would do if they discovered earth, or whether extraterrestrials exist or not. I mean this as a way of sparking debate about the state of humanity rather than the practicalities of alien life. But if aliens did discover earth, what do you think they would be most "impressed" by, and why? Or are we living in such a way as that there is nothing they would recognise as special or good that we do?

I don't think they would be impressed with anything. Maybe that we have managed to avoid nuclear winter so far?

i think if they were technology advanced enough to make it to earth, they wouldnt care to much about our technological advancements
i think they would be more interested in some natural phenomenon , like drugs, medicinal plants, and maybe rock and roll
speaking of roll, the best thing we could probably do is rick roll them right away
Aliens:take me to your leader
Humans:*snickers* ok!!! *leads aliens to a stage*

maybe they will be impressed how far we have come, humans would be excited as fuck to find anything bigger then bacteria out there

I think there's a good chance they might be impressed by music. Music can transcend all of our other bullshit. Not all music of course, but some of it. That's the thing i think they would be most impressed with.

I know what you mean, i mean our music does make mathematical sense a lot of the time as regards to the way its all done at set frequencies with the notes usually in the same relation to each other in all music. And i think the breaking of these mathematical rules that govern music- ie the guitar playing of jimi hendrix- in an aesthetically pleasing way is something that aliens would be impressed by.

They would be impressed, considering how dumb all over we are, that it's taken so long to kill ourselves off. Hopefully they can lend a hand with their superior technology.

I would mainly agree with you, although i do think that humans have actually started to kill themselves off reasonably early. I mean maybe i'm wrong but i just don't see society as we know it existing in another hundred years or so. I suppose that's probably been said by previous generations. But nuclear weapons and resources running out don't bode well. Humans have only been around a short while in the scheme of things, and we probably arent gonna be around too much longer.
I always think to myself, why did humans have to try and develop their technology so damn fast? Morality and Philosophy just haven't had time to catch up. I mean once if we had just waited a few hundred years before each key invention, maybe we could use them for a better good, with greater understanding of them. Humanity has been in such a rush.

I know it sounds paradoxical, but i think that the towering birth rate is actually a sign that we are starting to kill ourselves off. These kind of things are what i mean. More births = more consumption, more draining of resources- without resources humans will die out, more climate change, more tension over resources- more likely for wars to develop and so on. At some point, we are simply going have a absolutely huge plummet in human life.

The mathematical observation that exponential growth with limited resources cannot continue unabated in no way reinforces your point.

Why not? My point is that Humans can be seen as being in the beginning of the process of killing themselves off, even though our numbers are still rising. As you say, exponential growth cannot continue with limited resources. But it is very likely we will continue to breed even more of us, thus using more resources. Resources will begin to run out, and as a result, it is likely wars will become a necessity (nuclear weapons). Food will become scarce. Lots and lots of people will die.

Listen, i have observed from your posts that you seem to find many other people's views as nonsense and illogical, and that you enjoy dismissing their views using sarcasm. Or indeed pictures that indicate the person or their view is stupid and such. Hence the llama face i assume? This is understandable, because internet forums are usually full of all sorts. Well if you would, please forgo this with me. I'm here to learn and debate. I'm young, and you probably know much more than me, i accept that. So if you feel up for it, please actually tell me why i'm wrong, and if i can see what you mean, i will happily change my views on this matter.

Yes, i think so. I apologise if i muddled my words a bit. You say is happening and might happen are worlds apart, but what will happen is usually based upon what is happening now is it not? We are going too fast- i suppose you might say it is a stretch to claim that a massive drop in population is bound to follow, but is this not likely? What do you think will happen in the future to our population if we continue as we are?
That's true, but in light of our situation as a species i can't help but feel our ceiling isn't that far away, can you?

Something analogous to ears is probably pretty common among complex life forms in the universe. Sensing vibrations in some way.
However that is not all there is to music appreciation, it seems you also need a human-like brain to grasp the emotional weight behind music. I doubt aliens would understand.

I don't mean to claim we are 100% definitely going to kill ourselves off, just that its likely within a small fraction of how long we have been on earth ie 100, maybe even a 1000 years or so. I suppose you are right, there is no way to know. Alongside climate change and nuclear weapons ect there are also new ways we can probably find of prolonging our species existence.

I don't think so either.
The ones I encountered on DMT were the most powerful, intelligent, benevolent beings. They had humanoid bodies with reptilian-like skin, like that of a gecko. Their skin color was a sky blue with white undertones. They utilized both their hands and feet for mobilization purposes, and their hands were amphibious, similar to a frog but not quite the same. Their eyes glowed as hot as the sun; the highly saturated orange color emanating from their eyes pierced directly through my soul. They also had tails coming out of the back of their heads, kind of like a Twi'lek.
I feared these aliens. I genuinely thought they were going to hurt me in some way. But they didn't. They remained calm and reassured me that they were on my side and that there was nothing to fear and that they would protect me should any harm come my way. I instantly fell in love! I no longer feared anything in the universe.
If aliens are anything like the DMT entities I encountered, I will be very happy.

I'm quite sure they will have an agenda and that they are not just flying by for fun and that we will not be the first species they discovered. It all depends on their 'culture' and may vary in extreme ways. If they're here, then they for sure joined the leaders of this planet to exploit those silly sheepish humans in any way imaginable. Those who would want to help humans seem to be those supressed in an universal context

it probably all depends on the alien species tbh.
however, for them to travel all this way for no personal gain seems pretty un likely
what do we have to offer them that they couldnt just take?

Aliens would likely view humans as typical animals. There would be nothing about us that would be impressive.
It would take around 1 million years to explore/colonize the galaxy traveling at 1/10 the speed of light. I will guess that they would have already reached a technological singularity (not an AI reference) and would have no need of anything we have to offer. Aliens might visit Earth for statistical data and long term monitoring. They would station probes to monitor our progress for the sole purpose of insuring a dangerous race didn't achieve interstellar travel before genetic refinement.
If such a scenario did arise they might intervene.

If you look at our history of more advanced cultures discovering a less civilized culture, i think we can get some good clues. Like destruction, slavery, taking natural resources, treating less advanced people like savages, and maybe even mixing of cultures. Its sad but thats my best bet.

i think they would be more interested in some natural phenomenon , like drugs, medicinal plants, and maybe rock and roll
speaking of roll, the best thing we could probably do is rick roll them right away
Aliens:take me to your leader
Humans:*snickers* ok!!! *leads aliens to a stage*
Rick Astley: "Never gonna give you up,Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you"
maybe they will be impressed how far we have come, humans would be excited as fuck to find anything bigger then bacteria out there
LOL rickroll the aliens
