Not really....I'm sure gas can still escape....
But fresh air cannot hit the dry verm layer to keep it dry.....

I've seen jars stall often from keeping the foil on. Not personally, but you get people posting on here all the time asking why their myc stopped growing and you find out they put the foil back on after inoculation.

And those people usually used the wrong sized jars, or something else of that nature.
You will find a lot of threads where TCs shoot down the fact that foil restricts GE as well......and that it only aids in moistening the verm layer.

I'm sure it does too. I thought the "E" stood for "exchange", not "escape".
Your good at picking out the silliest things to try and "correct". Sometimes it borders on trolling.

It does stand for exchange.....which is gas escaping from the jar....

Maybe I am overthinking this.....but having the foil on after sterilization doesnt really help anything...so I must point it out.
There is no real need for a dust cover when you have a dry verm layer.

theres alot of threads where people fight with jars and lids, and holes, and rust , and polyfill, and long PC times, along with all the hazards of broken glass.
those who use PP5 containers, have none of these issues. they require no foil, no mods, and FAE is from loose lids.

cheap, safe, durable, widely available , and, no need for mods. the value and advantage should be apparent.

At least we can agree on the big picture.

I keep my foil on to help retain moisture as well as to allow the filter to dry out. If I take my foil off right after PCing the filter will be wet, not sure if that will actually lead to contaminants or not since it's probably dry by the time it cools, but that's just what I do. Why do pp5 containers remove the need for foil? Moisture can still get in through your filter. I don't worry about rust either because when my lids start to rust I don't give a fuck.
