Slowing Cubensis colonisation pf tek
    #19185381 - 11/25/13 02:55 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

If the title didn't make it clear, is there any way to slow cubensis colonisation with the pf tek? Because basically I can inoculate in the next day or two but in just over two weeks I have to be out of town for 10 days and I was thinking that if I was to leave after innoculating now they may pin in the jars or some other horrible thing could happen.

So could I just inoculate now, put them in the fridge (I can adjust the temperature a little) before I leave and just resume where I left off when I get back?

I could obviously just wait to inoculate just before I leave but my spores arrived today and I'm dying with excitement I just want to see those happy mycelial fingers munching away at the brf I feel like a school girl with a crush on shrooms this is just so exciting :justcantwait:

Yes you can pop them in the fridge, but I think coming back to see them all complete would make you happy, too.

I know but can they sit in the jars for too long? Like is there anything that could go wrong and ruin them entirely?

Because I'm gone for ten days so I could inoculate them like 4 or 5 days before I leave and they could sit for two weeks which I think would be fine but if I did it soon then they would be in the jars for nearly 3 weeks or more.

If I leave them to sit out of the fridge and continue colonisation I mean.

They'll be fine in the fridge; the colonization will slow to a crawl.

Not putting them in the fridge won't hurt them in 3 weeks, either. They'll possibly colonize to 100%, and begin consolidation.

Personally, I think you're just overthinking it. 'Noc them up, and leave them be to do their thing, then dunk and roll after Christmas.

I know I'm overthinking it but I only have one shot at this and I'm absolutely terrified of fucking it up because I can't just learn from it and try again :P

Okay so inoculate ASAP and when I get back (18th of dec) if they're 100% colonised should I still wait a little bit to consolidate or do you think three weeks is long enough?

At 100%, give them another week to consolidate the cake, then dunk & roll, then put them in your FC. Mist and fan a few times a day, and you're good.

Trust me: stressing over them will only make things worse. 'Noc them, and don't even look at them until you get back.

Sweet, so do you think having them sit for three weeks would negate the week for consolidation if they look 100% when I get back?

They'll probably JUST be hitting 100%, so give them a week anyway
