outdoor Ps cyans
    #19183836 - 11/24/13 06:05 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Total noob here. And, not to raise any hackles but I'm not ready to delve into a new hobby right now, but...

I found four old Ps. cyans today. Past the point of ingestion but still showing spore activity. I'm printing a couple now to see that spore release is still happening. It's been dry and freezing here so we'll see. Anyway...

I dug a shallow hole next to my lawn and put the soil in a bucket. Then I took a seasoned alder log and used a spade bit on my drill to make a couple of cups of shavings and chips. Then I took two of the cyan caps, cut them into small pieces and added those, all the stem butts and the alder to the bucket. I tossed it like a salad and put the mix back into the hole I dug. Any guesses about what will happen in the fall?

I dunno? they're pretty small, spores. What do you clean them with?

I get so many cardboard boxes that smell mildly like petroleum solvents that I thought a raw, seasoned alder log might be better!?!

Maybe we could start a pool on whether cyans will pop up next year. What with my meager effort and all. Hold off on committing though. It's been a few hours now and no spores from the two left over caps. The dry weather and freezing temps may have done them in entirely.

not exactly sure what he means by cleaning them up but if I were to guess I would think he means putting them on agar and making transfers until you get a nice clean specimen to work with.
