Spore color

Attempting to learn the ID process and  am in need of some help in determining spore colors. What I thought was black/ black purple looks a transparent brown under a scope with dark edges. Is this because of the light on the microscope.

Probably yes.  Spore colors are usually given for spore prints, not spores under the scope.

I'm learning too.  I believe the most important information will be size, shape, and outstanding features like bumps/warts, germ pores and the like.  Also if you have access to certain reagents -apparently meltzer's is hard to come by because it has scheduled ingredients - you would be able to take note of changes in those hues over time.  If you knew this already, i apologize.
