Question about fruiting?
    #19183286 - 11/24/13 03:54 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Alright so this is my first grow ever and everything is going surprisingly well
Out of the 12 jars that I inoculated, 10 are almost 100% colonized after about 3~4 weeks but two stopped around 30% and I think it's because those are the two where I barely had anything left in the syringe to inoculate them with
I'm planning on letting them colonize for another four days or so because they're already pure white but just to be sure and then let them consolidate for a week after that
They've been on a shelf in my closet with indirect sunlight and I was planning on putting my fruiting chamber in the same spot with a 6500K Florescent bulb with a 12/12 schedule just because it's a convenient spot
Is this fine? Or should I place it outside of the closet with more light than just the bulb? I'm assuming it's fine in the closet but I'd just like to make sure :tongue2:

You only need 1 microscopically small spore to germinate to see growth.

"it's because those are the two where I barely had anything left in the syringe to inoculate them with"

Unless you were pushing down on empty syringe, I doubt that's the problem.

With the two jars that are absolutely irrelevant to my question aside, anyone?

closets are to confined for my liking, sgfc's work best off natural air currents in the room:thumbup:

Ive got some cakes fruiting right now in a stuffy stale air closet.. just noticed my frst pins today on my first grow in 7 years.. spotted 16 pins on the bottom.. you can grow in stuffy closets but id recomend grwing in a place with better air if possible for you.. its not for me.. but if you can survive from breathing the air in your grow space for an hour or so,  the mushies oughta be getting enough oxygen to grow.. my 2 cents..

yeah its just that the whole point of a sgfc is for it to hold in moisture while also letting the natural air currents let in fresh air. I am pretty sure it being in a closet kinda defeats the purpose a bit.

When i did my first grow it was not uncommon for people to grow in tubs with no holes.. mine consisted of a large purple rubbermaid with no holes for air exchange.. even the lid was purple so i cut a hole in the lid for light and super glued a cd case cover over it.. and i was growing about half a pound a month dry weight back then lol!
