    #19182809 - 11/24/13 02:07 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

so i had this fully colonized wbs jar that had a sour smell to it, i shook it to see how it recovered, well it recovered fine no green no nothing and now the sour smell is gone and it smells mushroomy.

My jars always have a differing smell before and after shaking them.
If it looks healthy, smells good, why not give it a shot?

How colonized is it?

So , the next question is which factor of your process is causing contamination in your spawn?

Agar or even the brf agar substitute to clean your spores up, as for your jar i'd spawn it on its own and air on the side of caution

It doesn't matter what i think of you...all that matters is clean spawn

i could just spawn the wbs jar to some coir and verm let colonize then fruit it, take some tissue put it onto some agar and do it that way? or maybe make a spore print from the fruits and then put onto agar? which way would be better if you guy's opinion/experience?

I guess the myc eats lactobacillus and yeast to a certain degree. But if the bacteria have already produced a lot of ethanol or acetic acid, the myc can't take it. But by that time the grains are going to be a gooey mess.

No, 1 jar of WBS and 1 jar of substrate...not a whole brick.

Before shake

After shake

there's no smudges no smears from grains :strokebeard:
