Sour grain jar
    #19183534 - 11/24/13 04:53 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

okay so i'm recently new to fungus cultivation i have a concern right now that i need help with.

i have 1 colonized wbs jar that i knocked up with a syringe i made from an outdoor print that came from a monotub i threw outside because it had a spot of trich popped up.

the jar looks healthy and theres no sign of contams that i can see, but it had a sour smell to it. I shook up it to see if it would have any trouble recovering and to see if any signs of contams popped up, but there are no signs of any, BTW the sour smell is now gone...how is this possible and would it be recommended to use this jar for g2g?

Hmmm I just got an awesome pinset from a jar that did the same thing to me but I got it to right itself by letting in some air. As for G2G I am not a pro at all but my inclination would be to go for it if the smell is all gone and you dont see any funky colors in ther.

No I can't say I would, unless you're desperate and have no other jars to use for one.

I certainly would recommend against making a syringe from an outdoor spore print. Much higher risk of contamination.

Glad you got some agar. No doubt you'll need to get some clean inoculant from that print. Even if the bacteria seems to be gone in that jar, Trich likes to hideout until after you spawn I wouldn't have high hopes for it.

So i took some transfers from this dish and placed onto others, i took some wedges from the transfers and just made a master i placed about 3 good sized wedges about the size of a quarter, but one wedge fell to the bottom of my sab when i was knockin the jar up, how likely is it that this jar will now contam?

You used it after it fell? It probably will contaminate.
