FRESH AMANITAS!
    #1915345 - 09/14/03 12:21 PM (20 years, 6 months ago)

Hey Guys! I just picked around 20 beautiful A. Muscaria's today...and I've got them drying in the oven right now. QUESTION: with NO glass/airtight container, NO baggies...WHAT DO I DO WITH THEM WHEN THEY ARE DRY???

Just call this a case of poor pre-planning in a country where the grocery store closes too early to justify the procrastination!

PLEASE HELP ME!
THANK YOU!

If you're motivative enough to get out and pick mushrooms at least be motivated enough to go to your local super market and buy something you can store them in. Plastic baggies don't cost more then 4 bucks... come on now!

The most likely outcome of eating dried aminitas is a crushing headache, extreme nausea, feeling icy cold whilst sweating profusely and no trip whatsoever.

ALEX:

Thanks for the insigt! Unfortunately I read your post this afternoon instead of last night!

What is the secret with these? This is my first experience with the amanita...and dried is obviously NOT the way to go.

WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND?

No, dried is the way to go. They have to be dried in order to convert the chemicals from the undesireable ones to the ones you want. Make sure you have a positive ID on any mushrooms before consuming them.

That being said, a lot of people seem to not enjoy amanitas muscaria or get bad effects from them. I've used them 3 times and enjoyed them every time, so your milage may vary.

Well park, here's some tips from the book "Magic mushrooms in religion and alchemy". He suggests a good time could be possible after some serious experimentation. (But he also says it can be "harrowing and extremely physically unpleasant") Few tips:

Immature specimens tend to produce far more toxic effects than mature ones. Begin very slowly - eat the first amantia over about an hour and see how you feel. The first effects come on after around 2 hours. You'll probably experience intense sweating and saliva flow.

So you should stick with dry (or cooked) mushrooms not the raw ones, use mature specimens - the older the better. Heinrich also says that the only truly blissful experience he had from amanitas (after several hellish nauseating experiences) was when he ate the dried specimens then urinated into a jar after a couple of hours, and drank his own urine. All the good stuff apparantly concentrates in your urine.

Good luck!

TWIRLING:

Well...tonight is try #3: tea.

Yesterday we dried our batch in the oven, low heat, for about 3 hours. Having no airtaight container they were pretty rubbery today. We made some tea tonight, and drank it about a 1/2 hour ago.

How did you consume them?

I got mine from a vendor, already dried and ready. I just ate them straight-up. They are very chewy. Started with around 5 grams or so, it was a medium sized cap.
