A question for the pros :-)
    #1918044 - 09/15/03 02:19 PM (14 years, 9 months ago)

Ok. here we go again. My friend has a casing going and it started to colonize but the colonization has slower down it appears. He has the casing in a rubbermade tub with perlite inthe bottom and it is well heated. He has foil covering the top of the 50-50+ casing in the tank. I was thikning that having the foil may be the reason for the colonization stoping its growth, Should he remove the foil or replace it with something better? Thanks again in advance.

How's the perlite set up? You say it's well heated...growth can stall from being TOO HOT too, so be weary of that possibility. Aside from water and temp, my best guess would be a bad pH.

Remeber always, that my words here recount a long and beautiful dream. They in no way are reference to real events.

casing usually does not require the use of perlite, simply misting and fanning a few times a day will do. Plus light, u gotta have a few hours of light

If the casing is covered with thin foil, then why is the perlite for?... Perlite has no use while incubating... If you see some spots of myc. spreading over the casing layer, you should remove the thin foil and let them fruit.....

hope it helps....

yeah dude if you can see myc spots coming out then def remove the foil, cold shock and be shocked  if you wait too long and teh myc engulfs all of the casing you will have 'OVERLAY' and thats not what you want either. it may still fruit, but youre defeating the whole principle of a casing creating a micro-climate and its just one big lump of a cake then.

Holy shit people; COMMON SENSE! we were all born with it where did it go?
maybe theres a tek out there to explain how to use it!
