Planing on starting a little grow some time in the next few months. Was wondering if anyone has used LED grow lights before?
If so, any recommendations or advice?

Ive used LED. They are quite efficient at producing a solid vegetative plant but are totally lackluster when it comes to flowering. Why were you thinking LED, heat issues?

for the price of one nice led you can have a full setup for dwc and a digital hps/mh ballast and pull about a gram a watt or so depending on skill.

I think the Growery would have more information on this. LED's are great for saving money on energy and they don't produce much heat

Indeed - small space.

Yeah - that's why I wanted to go that road instead. I was thinking of putting a grow tent in my closet since I have the space.

Get you a 250 hps with a MH conversion bulb and keep it personal. Let me say that again keep it 100% personal.

Yeah, it's personal use only. How much does it add on to an electric bill though? fuck I should just google this shit.

Okay, I did the math. Works out to an extra $23 on my Hydro bill.

Totally new to this. I want to keep it to 3-4 plants and was considering making a grow tent in my closet.

terrible advice in here
you need a HPS light
i dont know how big you wanna go but just get a 400watt if you wanna go small
then you need good fans and ventilation
you need good seeds or cuttings
you need to pick if you wanna grow soil or hydro
if soil, what are you gonna use for your soil?
there are a lot of questions you need to ask yourself
growing weed isnt as easy as most people think it is

growing ranges from plant and forget to a warehouse setup on a 1000 gal reservoir and a 1000w hps every 25 square foot of floor space.
absolutely nothing beats experience imo, start where you feel comfortable, but one should be able to get a gram per watt with a propper dwc setup.

I personally taught plenty of people how to grow tomatoes and do not go with a 400 watt at first you are will be asking for a disaster. You can get some product off grow wing cfl it's perfect fore getting the feel of things. Once again don't go with a 400 watt your first grow work your way up.

If you have some money to throw down I would recommend making the leap to LED lights. In the last year they came out with 5W led bulbs that are able to penetrate deep in the canopy. I use a 800W LED unit that uses 5W bulbs. Won't have to replace anything for a decade and its producing almost as much as my 1000W HPS was. It uses about 40% less power and doesn't require venting either. The quality is superb also I would say its slightly better in my opinion, healthier plants all around.
I had to change to a light mover set up and lower my light to about 1ft above the canopy to get about the same results as one stationary HID. Lowered my overall costs by about 50%.

Ill go led when I see legitimate a side by side (not by anyone who stands to profit) with a 1000w mh/hps, vegging/budding next to a led equivalent, set up with identical(ish) clones , both using the same reservoir ect.. (and I would even accept 2 completely different panels one for veg and one for bud) I dont believe there worth the initial cost and if you want penetration you want a big ol' hps, a small room with a 1000w hps requires sun glasses
