Contamination
    #19180187 - 11/23/13 07:24 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Okay, so this is the second batch I've grown and I've got contamination of what appears to be mold. I set it out in the cold (like below the freezing point of water for a few days) and let it go back into the incubator. After a few weeks, the green stuff is still there but hasn't spread and the cake started it's first flush. Can I just cut out the, what I can assume is dead mold or is the whole cake ruined?

I might ask my microbiology professor discretely about this later. The shrooms are looking so big, it would be a shame to through away the whole thing. Alternatively, I have something like an isolation chamber, basically a trashcan with a lid that I can put it in so I can test the growth without risking the contamination of other cakes. Opinions?

toss it and forget about the incubator... mold spores are more likely to colonize at higher temps... perfect your sterilization process. and rule our your spore syringe it may contain contaminants.

It's directly under the pins. It IS a shade if green, I just used my cell phone camera which is pretty crappy and makes the thing look orange-brown.

I don't see it...usually the mycelium will not colonize the substrate if contaminants are present, and you have full colonization with in-vitro pinning. Are you sure you don't just have bruising?

Might just be bruising. Nothing looks out of the ordinary to me, except that its ready to be birthed.

Okay then, I'll be letting it grow separate from the others just in case. Thanks.
