All of them are clones but different substrains. When I cloned to agar I decided to test all the sectors out. Some of them were just blobs and mutants. But some of them are doing surprisingly good

Most people associate the SGFC with noobs & PF cakes. What those people don't realize is how useful they are for trays, blocks and exotics.
Good job following the tek.

Exactly! IMO this is the most efficient way to produce larger amounts. When the trays are colonizing they don't take up as much space as monos do. So you can just stack them up on a shelf until 100% colonised +2-3 days consolidation. I like the idea behind monos that it is mostly set and forget but SGFCs are much better with FAE and humidity. I only have to mist and fan once in the morning and once in the evening.
I think these trays are also good for people with contamination problems. They colonise much faster and If one contaminates you don't have to get rid of your whole batch like with monos.

omg my dehydrator is full now
big square trays first flush 60g dried smaller trays yielded around 25-30g dired i can fit 2 large ones and 3 little ones in in my FC. so the average yield is about 200-220g dried for 1 SGFC I am quite pleased with the results. waiting for 2nd flush:)

Sorry for the old bump, but holy shit this is a haul. Can this be done with standard PF cakes? I have 20 jars colonizing now and would love to do something like this.
Can they be broken apart and spread around the floor of a tray/terrarium or something like monotubs are?

Yes they can but if this is your first grow I suggest keeping the cakes whole and fruiting them.

I'll have 20 cakes and if a large amount of them colonize, I'd love to do 12 in one chamber and the rest broken up as an experiment. Do you have a link to a Tek that describes breaking down the cakes into a "bulk" like tray?

Again, if I we re you i would just fruit them as cakes. If you don't want to the search bar is full of other methods.

I am fruiting nearly all of them as cakes, bro. But I want to experiment with other methods at the same time. I'm not going to somehow gain less experience/knowledge by properly fruiting only 80% of my colonized cakes the standard PF Tek way.
I don't know the name of the method I am describing so I can't really search it. I guess cake trays or cake containers?

pf tek should be left as that.. fruiting whole cakes. PF tek isn't that great of a spawn media. It will work, but your chances of contamination go up in the process. The knowledge you will gain from pf tek to bulk is kind of pointless if you plan on getting some prints from your cake grow and going the proper bulk method (which is much easier) Personally, I don't think it is worth the risk. If you are still convinced, try typing cakes to bulk in the search bar. If it were me I would get some coco coir and gypsum. cakes are mostly verm so if you do add more i wouldn't do a whole bunch. I would make a few quart jars of field capacity coir and 10% gypsum by volume. PC the jars at 15 psi for around 90 minutes. Then I would stick with a 1 spawn to 2 sub ratio, aiming for a total substrate thickness around 2.5 to 3 inches thick. Do all of your mixing in a SAB.

Using cakes for spawn is just fine. You were either talking about spawning your cakes to a bulk substrate or just crumbling them in a tray and covering them with a casing material.
And dont listen to PurePleasure. By by all means experiment away and do what you want. Google and the search function are your best friend.

making trays are easy, I would suggest though you use a bulk substrate, coir/verm, mixed through the spawned cakes instead of just breaking them up and putting a casing over it... use a cheese grater and grate the cakes in the tray, pasturize or sterilize the coir/verm and mix evenly and put tinfoil over the tray to let it recolonize... after a week or 2 throw it in your SGFC .. put a casing on at that point if you want to

Pasteurizing coir and verm is completely pointless. Coir should be sanitized especially for a newer cult member.

Breaking up cakes and casing them is nearly pointless.

If you're asking what are the benefits of breaking the cake, there are none. Fruit them as cakes(after dunk and roll) or spawn to bulk substrate. 'Casing' something that's already 2/3 vermiculite is counterproductive. RR
I'm out this topic. listen to skeet and hope you don't end up experimenting with trich. I mean you have fully colonized, contam resistant cakes that are determined to fruit. I just thinking breaking them up and using as spawn is a little ballsy for a first grow. I know you said it is only going to be 20 % of the cakes but I'm willing to bet you only have one SGFC. After you put the trays in the sgfc there is always the chances of a tam hiding out and butt fucking your whole crop. But hey, if trays is what you want to try then by all means

Here is your tek.
Buy a 20 quart tote.
Drill six 1"-1.5" holes. Two on each long side 3"-3.5" above the bottom and one at the top of the short sides.
PC up 3 quarts of hydrated coir and verm.
Throw a trash bag in your tote dump in the cooled coir verm and grate the 8 cakes into the mix.
Mix it all up well, trim the trash bag down, tape up the holes, and forget about it for a week.

you can pasteurize coir/verm no problem.
I would sterilize myself, but pasteurizing can be done I never said to specifically pasteurize it but said he could do that or sterilize it, either way both works
like I said breaking them up and casing them isn't much good, but mixing them with a bulk sub is great, and its simple, a beginner can do it easily
like pasty said too, instead of a tray you can do a mini mono style

Coir verm simply needs to be cooked. Pasteurizing works, its good practice for when you do poo or straw.
