I ended up breaking it all up real finely so there's not even much white visible ( only some on seeds )

thats perfect. if not contaminated they should be 100% colonized in about a week. its amazing how quickly they recover and take over the whole jar...if not contaminated. its amazing.

It's already taking off like crazy. One half of the jars are nearly fully colonized while the other half just needs to catch up

I'm doing g2g for my first time, so all I really need is one jar.. All three of the jars would be awesome xD

I normally break my jars up on my hand. If it's difficult I'll bang em on the dirt outside. One time I didn't realize I was standing on concrete and well.. the jar broke up..

I break my myc up by bouncing the jar off a tire or some type of rubber

Yeah. I usually use my palm aswell but it is a bad habit. All glass has a fracture point where if you hit it its going to break and Ive read that over time of repeated pc'ing the glass can also become stressed or increasingly fragile. Dont know if true or not but fuck it. Had worse things happen to me than a little glass in my hand.

When shaking be a violent bastard lol. Small clumps although yes fine is still not ideal. Just lazy imo. The point of breaking it all up is to create as many points as possible for the mycellium to spread from. A small clump is less points than the half dozen or whatever individual kernels the clump is made of would provide if seperated.

I think i need to get a paint can shaker or something though cause right now im only doing a dozen jars at a time and still at the end my arm gets tired and palm starts getting inflamed. And Im about to double up again.

Will it be ok if the myc starts growing more on one half of the jar than the other to begin with

Yeah your fine . Mine usually do that too. I think all it is is that we get a few more grains on one side than the other on the shake. Its pretty much impossible to get a truly even spread on a shake.

All you need worry about in your jars really once there nocd up is contamination showing up and regulating your temps. Other than that just be patient, give it a good shake usually around 20-30% colonization, and everything will be fine .

I know that as a beginner we tend to stress a lot. Cause i go through it too but this hobby is really for the patient. And even if its not ok... What can ya do now ya know. Its in the hands of the shroom gods lol.

I break up my jars by beating them against one of my 25lb rubber dumbbells while I'm curling it so that I don't piss off the downstairs neighbors.

Glad to see your jars are doing well, MT.  Are you going to use the extras for a mini mono?

I was originally noccing up 7 jars at a time for monotub but both of my attempts failed because my seeds were too wet. I decided to use half my syringe and noc 3 for g2g hoping at least one would fully colonize.

I plan on taking these 3 and g2g 7-10 more jars per colonized grain.. so hopefully i should get around 30 if all 3 turn out well! One large tub per 10  does that sounds pretty accurate?

Are you letting them consolidate for awhile before breaking them up? Mine can be a pita to break up if they've been consolidating for a week or so, but just after full colonization they'll fall right apart. Another idea if you want to do more than 12 jars is to switch to bags, they're certainly easy to breakup, though with the large bags I use you gotta be careful that they don't rip open when you're shaking them. I double seal mine, but I've had them tear open under the weight of the spawn before. Not the worst thing to happen if you're breaking them up to spawn anyway, but still not good.

Yeah I usually let em sit for a while after noc'ing before i shake. Try for around 20-30% colonization before shaking. Actually bags dawned on me last night aswell lol. There certainly cheap enough .

Oh, I didn't realize you meant the initial shake. I've never had difficulty doing that really unless my jars are too full or perhaps if they're oversaturated w/water.

I do tend to fill my jars up a bit too much i think lol. Doesnt leave much room for a good shake. I also tend to use 6-7 quarts of spawn to a brick of coir too lol. I know its a bit overkill but figure why not. I got plenty and a higher spawn ratio means a faster colonization of bulk substrate which means less chance for contaminates right?

Yeah Im gonna try the bags after I use up what ive already got sterilized.

That is close to a 1:2 ratio, pretty standard.

Most of us recommend 6 quarts of spawn to a brick of coir

Is it? Cool . Glad to know i was doing something right lol. Plus it gives me the substrate depth that I like in my tub

I always thought 5qts was the standard for a brick. With the brick being approx 8qts when hydrated plus a couple quarts of verm being standard to most coir/verm recipes.

You'll find most experienced folks don't care much about exact ratios either
