rust*contams*tightness of jars & speed of growth
    #19178804 - 11/23/13 12:38 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

hey everyone,
i recently inoculated 12 brf jars and decided to use medical (breathable) cloth tape in replacement of the dry verm on 4 of the jars. I also decided to experiment a little more and fill those 4 jars tighter than usual.

well roughly 2 weeks later the 4 jars with the tape and the tighter amount of substrate have much more growth than the regular jars with the dry verm, in fact only two of the regular jars are showing growth well all 4 of the tape ones have tons of mycelial growth.

but i noticed this morning that one of the taped ones had what looked like rust growing around some of the mycelium.

tried searching the forums but couldn't find anyone who was sure about what it was.
probably gonna scrap it but i thought i'd check with you guys first.

Looks like bacteria to me, let a more experienced member confirm. It also looks pretty wet in there, so maybe the moisture content was off.
