There is nothing in your pic that indicates verticillium, it looks like your conditions are pretty poor though.

Ok, so here's some pics of the tub, and some close up of the fruits in it...maybe that will help. These tubs are in the same spot, one on top of the other.

These pins are all in the smaller, clear tub.

Both tubs have sterilized CVG with WBS for spawn, and the clear one has the seaweed added to it.  Thanks for any help folks:thumbup:

You wouldn't happen to be using an isolate? That would just be really cool if we could get a quantitative conclusion on if seaweed helps.

no, i'm not, but that's my plan.  I did use cloned tissue, if that matters.  I've got some third transferred cloned tissue that looks close, but the results wouldn't be conclusive enough unless there was a huge difference.  After the 4th or 5th transfer, i'm hoping it will be close enough to a monculture to  be used as a test.  The percentage of difference reduces drastically after the 5th transfer, so anything after that should be close.
EDIT:  I have mistaken transfers for generations...my bad.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19353300

This info seems to state that if you buy spores from a vendor, that they must be close to monoculture already, and by using agar, and singling out traits, you're just picking different traits from an already established monoculture, or culture that's been selective enough to give you accurate results.  I would imagine it's different for cloned tissue than it is for spores, because you'll get more variation with the spores.  Either way, it'll be fun to play the game.

Cloned tissue is better than ms, that's for sure. I haven't heard this though, when you get spores, vendor or not, you're getting totally random genetics with no predictability, every source I've seen says that except for one dumb fuck over in TPE. I could be totally wrong though, the source you cited seems pretty legit.

That's funny, I have been trying out sea vegetables lately and thought about adding some to substrates. Even soaking some sea vegetables like Kombu in water and using the water that the Kombu soaked in to hydrate things might be a nice touch. Sea vegies are an excellent source of iodine and a great source of other trace minerals like magnesium, phosphorus, and iron.

I take kelp for the iodine, but never thought of crushing one up to throw it in...

Hey guys, I had a question about throwing in the packed coir/verm jars into the pressure cooker WITH an unmodified lid.  Some answers online scared me and varied widely.

How tightly do I close my jars?  I'm afraid they're going to explode in the pressure cooker if I tighten the lids too much...

Can I pack the jars up to the rim?

How long can I store these?  There's no general consensus on this and I've read the whole thread, does anyone know?  I'm assuming they'll keep longer than 10 days as someone previously mentioned.

Thanks in advance all!  Keep on keeping on!

You tighten it all the way then back it off a quarter turn, I actually do a half turn cause it worried me too. Although I believe RR has said that a jar won't explode in a pc even if it is completely tightened, but do not quote me on that. You can pack them pretty damn full, but I'd leave some space so the lid can make a seal, a good inch should be plenty. Since it's coir, 10 days should be okay, especially if it's sterilized. Sterilized stuff can usually last indefinitely. Someone recently ate a can of 50 year old tomatoes. Haha. You should use it as quickly as you can though just in case!

Fuck I pack mine to the top and need to tighten the ring to get the lid to close. Probably run close to 75 quarts and not a cracked jar yet. If you want you can just use foil and put the ring over that

Do not tighten jars in a PC!!! Big no no unless you like cleaning broken glass bits up. As temperatures change unevenly you can have drastic pressure changes that will pulverize a jar. There is a reason when you can things there is no air at the top.  If they are super packed it is less of a danger.

Well I pack mine so full that the lid does not really seal. But I have not even had a jar crack.

I've heard it was fine too. As a matter of fact, when I first started out and I was pc'ing a lc, I forgot to loosen the lid on the jar and they were fine also.

wait ten days?!?! shit.  i was doing large filter patches of them, and i have one that is twelve days old unused...figured it would be ok??  its "sealed" RR style the way he does sawdust bags in the video..tyvek and trifold.  i know its sealed well (i mean it always has with sawdust or grains or coir for me..) but i let cool overnight and put it into plastic bag and tied that up...u think i should sterilize again?  extra extra pre digested coir for the mycelium?

Done many jars completely tightened down for a long time and never had one burst. I do use SFDs so maybe air escapes out of there, but who knows...

it would.  I think they were talking about sealed, unmodified lids, of which i have nothing to add.  Carry on.
