so I'm doing pf tek now but am wondering about what to do for my next grow. I obviously want to step the game up and do a bulk. guess I'm just fishing for people's advice and opinions about bulk teks. I keep seeing rye and read that it is good, but is there anything easier or is that the best way to go? any help is appreciated, thx

same thing
do a few pf tek jars, wait till colonized, crumble the cake
get a mix of coir/vermiculite 50/50 ( u can add hpoo if u want ) sterilize
mix the two put in a monotub or SGFC
wait till the sub is colonized (takes around a week)
introduce fruiting conditions
u dont need grains for this
keep it simple work clean

Yes, Mini-Monos. Mini Bulk grows, Gimmi a sec.
This is a good reference for all things
Specifically this,
preparing the wbs using this
and ending up mixing the spawn into sub using This
All into a monotub, but im late for work, I'll post later or im sure others will chime in on the monotub side.
Heres the thing, you can build a SGFC and make Mini Bulk grows..
at any local megastore, or superchain like walmart you'll find 6,12,15,20 quart tubs - I use 6 qts and 15 qts for my mini-bulks -
Inoculate your master grains, let them colonize - than take those MASTER JARS and grain 2 grain each quart into ten more quarts, you'll have hundreds depending on your budget. With good sterile technique like me you can have fifty-sixty jars so far without a single contam ( x-fingers. )
Than take those g2g'd jars and mix them with a simple coir/verm mix that was PROPERLY pasturized into these SMALL Containers, or you can go full scale with a 56-66qt mono or even larger like my next project a 110qt mono.
I'll update this post when I get home from work...

You do not place substrates in a SGFC to colonize...it is only used for fruiting.
Bulk in monotubs are different...the monotub is closed up for colonization.
And why would you use a 50/50 mixture of coir/verm? That is a lot of verm....
And please do not tell me because Damoin5050's tek says so...because it does not.

Just my 2 cents... Next step from pf tek depends on your goals
Are you in a hurry to get a big batch to store it? Or do you just want more yield for your own experience...
Are you into active species or edibles?
Going bulk after pf tek is not necessarily the next step after pf tek... The next step could be trying agar and grains and strain isolation... Or whatever you want it to be...
Or your next step, like some people, could be to move on to a different species...
Ever heard of pan cyans? Or edibles grown on cakes? For a lot of mushroom enthousiasts I know, they're 2nd step was dumping cubes and picking up pan cyans (for their potency)... I heard they are easier to grow than cubes even!!
They thrive on dung but it's optional... So your next step could thus be learning about pasturization, whatever gets you grooving

I was looking at franks how shit gets done teks and they seem awesome, but my resources are kinda limited at the moment and was really looking to find a solid tek on doing the substrate in a Rubbermaid container of some sort, yield is my main goal

i second this motion, also agar is a good learnning tool after th pf tek and it's much simpler then one might think

after my first brf cake yielded poorly, I used the other 5 cakes as spawn to coir verm. made three trays, they worked well.

just do small tray at first with ur brf cakes, you can fruit them in an sgfc like ur cakes. take a look at bodhi's thread on it....
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18857907
if you have a pot or PC to pasteurize the coir/verm in, its pretty safe even for a beginner, and if u are reading Franks stuff, its all in his "How I Get Shit Done" link. just substitute ur BRF jars (unopened but fully colonized) for his WBS jars

can we just pressure cook the coir? why does it need to be pasteurized?
