It's funny, we are one of the few countries that do not eat insects. They are high in protein, I can say that much.
A little off topic, but some of the straw I had once had small flying bugs in them. They did not harm the mushrooms; they burrowed into the peat casing layer, and they seemed to aeriate the peat, and make it fluffy. It was matted down and kinda hard at first. The bugs did help, and they flushed 6-7 times. A kinda permaculture I guess, and no contamination.
Go figure.

hell yeah mycelium5150-that sounds like a winner.ground up bug substrate is cool.maybe i'll try earthworms,or ants.i wonder if there's anywhere you could buy insects?

Its been 2 days now and the jars are fully colonized! The pnicher bugs survived teh presure cooking and were moving around the jars. HTere dead now because teh mycelium is eating them. I think the pincher bug helped spread the mycelium while they were alive and thats why i got full colonization in 2 days. I bet the pins comeearly also

Full colonization in two days!?! Did you inoculate with spore water or mycelium solution? I have never heard of pf jars colonizing that quickly.

Does anyone read post before they reply? Nowhere does it say in the original post complete colonization, only rapid colonization after three days. And where do you get the idea that the bugs survived sterilization 3mshroom?

Were all of the bugs alive? Did SOME of them get killed by the pressure cooking or did they ALL survive?
I didn't think they could survive that. I guess that is why my buddy pressure cooks the jars for an hour dispite what people say about not needing to cook them that long.

5150 - I hear you're going to try the Grape Nutz idea that my friend used combined with your insects idea. You'll have to tell me how that works!! I'm not sure if you'll have to use vermiculite with it because the Grape Nuts after sterilization seem to hold plenty of water. Keep us posted!!

One time I innoculated my own shit with a mycelium syringe. The terd colonized in like one day and shit. I fuckin' ate it. It was all fucked up. Terds were flying this way and that.
