My first find ever. Copelandia Tropicalis?
    #19173729 - 11/22/13 05:49 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Hello =]!

Yesterday i found my first set! Found it on cow dung (flat cow field with high grass), blue bruising. At first i wasn't excited since i was focused on finding Cubes, not Copes. I knew copes could grow on my surroundings but since i had never found one before, i doubted my identification skills.

I believe these were (they're gone) Copelandia Tropicalis. Although they could very well be Copelandia cyanescens, but the visual cues beg for Tropicalis. I lack the knowledge to make 100% sure, so if anybody could lend a hand... Pics below.

Anyways! I found them, tried them and omg did i trip.:rocket:

They are Panaeolus subgenus Copelandia. That's as far as you'll get without microscopy. There is no real way of telling whether they are cyanescens, tropicalis, cambodginiensis or something else from macroscopic characteristics alone.

I believe you need a microscope to really tell the difference between Panaeolus cyanescens and P. tropicalis. I take it that you are situated in a location where both species are available in the wild.

Pretty Panaeolus, which ever species they are.:thumbup:  i would say cyanescens, i think microscopy is required to tell the copes apart, great find regardless! (Tangich beat me to it.:smile: and angler, it seems.)

Alright! Thanks for your time! I'll work on getting a microscope for my future findings.

+1! It would have been really cool if you had printed that one before consumption. If you find more, you should make some prints :wink:

Why not the others?  I'm not really following your reasoning. :smile:
