Is it really necessary in a casing mixture? any comments? what about crushed oyster shell? I read the guides, but does anyone have any personal opinions?

My friend uses coir and it works fine without any ph buffer. However, if you use any peat based mixture, it is necessary 'cause the peat is a little too acidic. Also, as your mushies grow they make the casing more acidic, so calcium carbnate is good to use in any casing mixture, but it is not absolutely necessary with coir.

I just go 60% coir & 40% vermiculite as lime additives (in my findings) makes a dense clay casing that trashes the job. I haven't as yet seen any acidity drama, evidenced by pest fauna even to the 4th flush.

Here's a 5th Flush pic I just took. Note the new pins on it, merging the 5th flush to a 6th. More than likely, the large numbers of pins will result in small shrooms, but there's no drama to acidity. Case is left in a shopping bag to see what happens.

its good to use so that the ph is stable. I used oyster shells from the pet store and it shows to work very good. I would recomend to use this for sure..
