I'm almost finished building my acoustic drum kit!
    #19172855 - 11/21/13 10:14 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Now I have the shells--they are 10x9, 12x10, 14x11, and 15x14 pearl master's mcx maple shells in natural birdseye maple finish, a pearl 20x18 natural maple reference series bass drum, an Ian Paice 14x6.5 pearl signature snare (steel), and Pearl 1030 series tom holders, snare and cymbal stands, and hardware.

I ordered a Paiste 2002 15" soundedge hi-hat (John Bonham hi hat,) a Paiste 2002 22" ride, and a pearl H3000C hi-hat pedal.  Still have to get a double bass pedal, and a crash, splash, and china cymbal.  So a few more weeks the kit is done.

I just didn't know how fucking expensive drums were.  :awedisgust:

I posted some pics of parts before, but when I get it finished I'll post the completed kit.

That sounds awesome dude I'll definitely be checking in to see the pictures of the kit all put together
I have a Mapex birch wood drum set. It came with 4 toms and a snare drum but I play around with my set up a lot and use the floor tom from my old set because its so big and powerful. My cymbals are mixed too.

I need a new gear haha. My china cymbal is breaking :frown:

P.S. John Bonham is my favorite drummer at the moment so those hi hats must sound great

I'll be finding out about those hi-hats soon enough.  Actually Ian Paice is probably my fav drummer, he plays paiste also.  I'm currently coming up to speed on drums fairly quickly (I used to play bass and guitar) with the help of an on call studio drummer who is an orchestral drummer.  Hes going pretty fast so its lucky i can read and stuff.  I practie on a roland set with headphones, using addictive drums in software.  sounds great.

Here is a pic of the snare and bass drum..  the pearl ref bass is ridiculously good sounding, 4 ply mahogany and 2 ply maple.

So... is this like a mid life crisis in the making?

On a more serious note, did you try to play with drums before buying all this stuff? I know it sounds like a silly question but I really want to know if you have any idea on whether it will be worth the money or not.

yea, i sure did.  i played on an electric kit, then when i realized it was going to be not as hard as guitar, I started taking lessons.  Since I can read music already, and have some musical sense it hasn't been real difficult.  Of course it is a lot of work practicing.

That's cool. I like the idea of drums, I think its my next favorite instrument after pretty much any string instrument.

I don't know shit about drums but that stuff you're setting up sounds a little pricey (just on the names lol).

I hope you enjoy it. I can't read music for shit, though I suppose I haven't really given a lot of effort into it. The most I've ever spent on music equipment is maybe 2,000$ or so for a mic and power source.

I'm sure they will be a blast to play though.

Drums are so much fun! When I get in that mood I love to just feel the Rhythm and go at it.

If your looking for an instrument to play drums are great, not that any instrument isn't but it is pretty easy to get going on them. Whereas it takes most people a year just to get comfortable with playing a couple notes or chords on the guitar.

I'm not that old... but I feel like I'm too old to start learning an instrument.. Maybe I'll change my mind if I start feelin some creative juices or some shit.

I wouldn't mind playing some drums though. I'm sure there will be a day where I will have that opportunity.

That being said I can't get my mind to coordinate properly.. Like hittin the pedal for the bass drum and all that shit while doing the other pieces.. My foot does what it wants when it wants... Practice maybe?

Definitely practice. Same with the creative juices. You have to practice to get them flowing, like getting in shape, but for your artistic side.

The feeling too old to play an instrument thing is a common phenomena among many many people. My 18 and 19 year old friends say that.

I used to create music.. Although not with instruments. I used my voice. But even that took a lot of effort and honestly I really don't feel like putting forth that much effort anymore.

All kinds really. I listen to everything but I haven't really looked into country a whole lot because most of the stuff that is easy to find, I really dislike. I like some Johnny Cash though.

Nine Inch Nails is my all time favorite group, I should just say Trent Reznor but whatever.

I also really like Frank Sinatra.

Classic music is good too.

But yeah I listen to all sorts of shit depending on my mood.
