Finds from today's hunt
    #19172714 - 11/21/13 09:18 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

A friend and myself took a little hike today. We had fun and found a few fungi.

I would like an ID on this group, please! Just a blind guess Pholiota? I couldn't really find anything that resembled it in my field guide.

Flammulaster muricata

I'd like an ID on these as well. They were found on the same fallen tree as the first. They reminded me of cubensis pins..

Another LBM growing on the same tree. I believe that the tree was a birch or beech. My tree Identification knowledge isn't the best.

Pholiotina aff. rugosa

Not sure what this is, it  was cool though!

Xylaria polymorpha

PsathyrellaXerula

Lycoperdon pyriforme

Amanita citrina group

Mycena sp(?) Galerina hypnorum in some really pretty moss.

Hey mr. spider!

What tha hell.... ? Is he smoking that tree???

Laccaria laccata

i'm not good enough to go whole hog but my estimation is
#2 Psanthyrella (maybe)
#3 is Galerina ( i feel likely)

nice stuff all 'round

the 'pipe' is cool! lol but it would seriously put a dent in your stash to fill it.

did you collect any of the unknowns to print?

Thanks man! I did collect some of 1, 2, 3, 4, and the puffballs.

If 3 is galerina, that would be pretty exciting for me! I've been wanting to find them for a while.

When we saw the "pipe"  tree, we knew we had to stage a photo.  :getstoned:

Thanks buddy! I'm just using my cell phone.  It has a decent camera if you work with it. I am saving up for something nice, though.

and.... prints?

#1 might be squarrosa but that first pic i dunno... were they sticky?  printing brownish?  those gills dont look Pholiota-like to my inexperienced eyes.
i've only found P. squarrosa a couple times and didnt collect since they were big and I was ok with calling them that at the time...

i'll be interested in what the TI's call it

I should know how the prints turn our by tomorrow morning. I'm a +12hr guy. Get the job done right, if it gets done at all- those first 4 are so small I'm afraid they won't print

1. Flammulaster muricata
2. ?
3. Pholiotina aff. rugosa
4. Xylaria polymorpha

If your suspected Psathyrella had a deep rooting stem, I would say it's a Xerula
Your Mycena in the moss is likely a Galerina.

Good photos, thanks for sharing!

Close to Galerina hypnorum, judging from appearance and habitat.

Thank you, guys!!! I really appreciate the help and IDs. My field guides can only take me so far. You guys are gold.

And, now, I can officially be excited about my first galerina find! Who-hoo!

Finds from today's hunt [Re: pouihi]
    #19188589 - 11/25/13 07:20 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I went back out on Saturday. I found some resinous polypore(forgot to take habitat shots) and a few Oysters on the same stump growing over the river.

Here's what I did take pics of:

Ganoderma stump: They were old :frown:, but at least I will have a known fruiting stump for next season.

I played wack-a-puff with some pear shaped puffballs! Hopefully that will do the trick and make plenty more for next year. I harvested the immature fruits and made a delicious soup out of oysters and the puff balls. My wife was skeptical at first, but she went back for a second helping.... So that is like getting 4 stars in my books!

Another from the Amanita citrina group. Keep an eye out for this species in the "guess the mushroom" thread

ANNNNND My Mimosa pudica flowered! It's a one day bloom. If you sneeze you'll miss it. I should have another 5 flowers before it croaks.

This pic is from earlier this fall   I had a wild hair up my ass and wanted to see what would happen. Apparently, life figured out a way to grow- even if it isnt in a fruiting chamber.
