US Drones war crime * 1
    #19171088 - 11/21/13 04:41 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

"The United States government has made hundreds of attacks on targets in northwest Pakistan since 2004 using drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) controlled by the American Central Intelligence Agency's Special Activities Division.[4] Most of these attacks are on targets in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas along the Afghan border in Northwest Pakistan.
These strikes were begun by President George W. Bush and have increased substantially under President Barack Obama.[5] Some media refer to the series of attacks as a "drone war".[6][7] Until very recently, the U.S. had officially denied the extent of its policy; in May 2013 it acknowledged for the first time that four U.S. citizens, including Anwar Al-Awlaki, had been killed in the strikes.[8] Surveys have shown that the strikes are deeply unpopular in Pakistan, where they have contributed to a negative perception of the United States.[9]
There is a debate regarding the number of civilian and militant casualties. Estimated 286 to 890 civilians have been killed, including 168 to 197 children.[2][3] Amnesty International found that a number of victims were unarmed and that some strikes could amount to war crimes.[10]
Pakistan's Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, has repeatedly demanded an end to the strikes, stating: "The use of drones is not only a continual violation of our territorial integrity but also detrimental to our resolve and efforts at eliminating terrorism from our country".[11] The Peshawar High Court has ruled that the attacks are illegal, inhumane, violate the UN charter on human rights and constitute a war crime.[12] The Obama administration disagrees, stating that the attacks do not violate international law, and that the method of attack is precise and effective."wikipedia page

It seems like we get more popular everyday.

I'm sure the drones can be modified to drop boots before they launch missiles.

I do have a problem with the drone war after we reached Kabul we should have marched right to Islamabad.....

Also hundreds  of drones strikes try thousands most of them under obama .

The main problem I have with the drone war is obamas rules of engagement vs that of bush.

Also getting us involved in the coming  Sunni Shiite war is just :retawed:

Most people means a majority of people...

And I think that because of peoples opinions they have, whether it be about the US military effort, high speed police pursuits, cops using there guns too much, etc...

A synonym, well okay.

I disagree. I would say a majority of people are against the current wars the US is involved in, are against trigger happy cops, and all the blood and bullshit we are sold everyday.

I'm just stating observation I have made from both this site and real life :shrug2:

Maybe most was a slight exaggeration, but a good amount nonetheless.uk

If most people think it is wrong then why aren't they saying/doing anything about it?

I am highly against killing innocent people, I speak out against it as much as possible, I don't see how it's possible to not have strong feelings about this...

Idk, maybe most people just aren't well-informed about the subject.

Yeah, because you aren't capable of having strong feelings if you don't speak out against something.

Most people aren't well informed on the subject? Seriously? How could they not be, do you read the news every day?

I don't think its that people don't care. But when the news reports nothing but murder, kidnapping, rape... genocide. Torture, etc etc...

It's hard to not get a little emotionally numb. If you thought about that stuff non stop it would wear you down to a frail hollow shell.

In this specific case no, if you're not speaking out against it(killing innocent people), then obviously your feelings are not very strong about the subject...l

No I do not read the news everyday, neither do a LOT of other people.

Why would I? Most of it is about stupid shit just to distract us anyways.

I do independent research.

In no case does not speaking out against something dictate whether you feel strongly about it.

Yeah because reading news from several different sources shouldn't be used in "independent research"

It's not like that could be bias or lacking information or anything.

P.S. You don't have to actively read the news to hear about things happening every day.

"Independent research"

Idgaf about what you think about me not listening to/watching/reading mainstream news...

The closest thing I do to checking the news is visiting the shroomery news service every once in a while and checking out Before it's News...

I get the majority of my news from twitter, then I research it, and make an informed decision about it.

It's simple... don't click what you don't want to read. How hard is that?

Anyways the fact that you don't read or hear the news doesn't change the fact that most people do and have become emotionally numb to it to some degree.

You simply avoided my statement when I said that by saying you don't read the news and do "independent research", even though if you're doing "independent research" I have absolutely no idea how you couldn't tell how fucked up everything is. If you can't comprehend why people have gotten conditioned to it, then I feel sorry for you.

Its noble of you to feel so strongly about innocent people getting killed but its amusing to me that you're putting yourself on a pedestal and saying no one else cares.

I do realize how fucked up stuff is, IMO innocent people getting murdered is one of the most fucked up things that is going on, that's why I feel so strongly about it.

I'm not saying no one else cares, I know many other people who care, and who show it.

IDC if you're conditioned or not, innocent people getting murdered is not something to take lightly, and if you don't speak up/do something about it you obviously do not care care enough.

IDC if you consider that me putting myself on a pedestal or not, I don't, that's just the way it is.

IME/IMO if you really feel strongly about something as important as human lives, you would be speaking up about it.

Goodnight :peace:

Do you understand what the concept is when I say people get conditioned? Apparently you don't but whatever.

People do speak up about it, all the time. You make it sound like the people that don't care are the majority and the only way anybody could come up with that conclusion is by never leaving their house.

Keep speaking up and "doing something" about all the innocent people getting killed everyday and let me know how big of an impact you have.

Good luck!

Also for anyone else that reads this. I'm not saying someone shouldn't go out and do whatever you need to do to prevent people from getting hurt.

I'm trying to convey the message that just because other people "aren't" doesn't make you any better then them.

I think it is a good thing to feel strongly about something, especially something like this. However looking down on other people isn't a good thing.

If your gonna drop a bomb on someone, at least have the balls to do it from a cockpit so you can see who the fuck your shooting at instead of from a POS pixilated video camera miles above your target.

I do undertand, when you constantly see violence and stuff on the news it doesn't affect you as much. What I'm saying though is no matter how conditioned you are, mass amounts of innocent people being murdered all the time should still provoke strong feelings in you, if it doesn't then you obviously don't care enough.

And no I don't make it seem like people that don't care are the majority, at first I said most, then I corrected myself and said "Maybe most was a slight exaggeration, but a good amount nonetheless."

And I will keep speaking up and doing stuff about it, even if no one listens or pays attention, but people do listen and pay attention sometimes. I know I have personally changed the opinions of a fair amount of people, both from real life and social media, on this subject.

I would hate to live in a world where everybody thought that what they did wasn't making a big enough impact so they just stopped caring/doing stuff.

And I don't know where you keep coming up with this shit about me thinking I'm better than everyone, I never said that, nor do I feel that way.

Well, considering the shocking lack of empathy and basic human decency that's so prevalent in this country, it's no surprise that there are so many that are okay with drone warfare.

Yeah... You have a right to your opinion.

I'm certainly not knocking you for feeling so strongly about it, if you enjoy doing it or get some satisfaction from it then that's great.

I don't like the fact of thousands of people dying daily, but it's going to happen regardless. I'm not going to say that you can't save a couple people nor am I going to say that your time isn't worth that.

I personally don't want to hear or read about it, though I do take the time to research and read things every now and then. Personally I'm not going to spend my whole life feeling strongly about something that I'm not going to change. There is a lot to experience in this life and I refuse to spend it doing things in vain.

I tried what I thought would provide me a means of helping other people, and I was able to. However it came at a price, and I don't feel that it was worth it.

Again, there's nothing wrong with you for feeling strongly about it, and/or doing something about it. But that doesn't make anybody else wrong because they don't.

P.S. Drone warfare is retarded. Boots on the ground would have a lot less casualties. They say drone warfare is to prevent troops from getting injured, but I don't think it prevents that many and at the same time causes casualties to innocent people.

I'm sure Al-Qaeda and the Taliban love our drones. It's the best recruiting tool they've ever had.

Yeah, exactly.. As if everyone did hate us enough. I know I shouldn't be surprised considering the way our government is honestly but I should be fairly obvious its not worth the consequences, very counter productive.
