The well-mannered political discourse thread.

Hi guys! I am an apolitical alien from the nearby planet of "Eden" (no relation). We have no politics, strife or disagreement on Eden, and my species is incapable of feeling negative emotions toward others. We are also completely incapable of sarcasm, underhandedness or double-speak. All we know is infallible logic coupled with positive emotion.
Needless to say, we are having a very hard time grasping the concepts involved in the United States political system and it's accompanying commentary.
Do you think you can explain the various political views of this nation in terms that we would be able to understand and pass on to our people?

The Extremes of both
neoconservative: no rights for gays, blacks, mexicans or anyone else. You must be christian. Also no social benefits for anyone. Very low taxes. Abortion is evil
Liberalism: No guns for anyone, think of the children, people must at all time be protected from themselves because they're to stupid to handle anything dangerous. Everyone should get social benefits for everything. Much higher taxes. Abortion is fine __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Moderate of both
Conservatism: no marriage for gays, although maybe we can debate on this, We're keeping our gun rights. Few social benefits for people. Generally lower taxes. Abortion is bad
Liberalism: No guns, think of the children, but maybe you can have hunting guns. People should be protected from themselves, but should still maintain some freedoms. Many social benefits for people. Generally higher taxes. Abortion is fine __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Of course not everyone who identifies with democrats or republicans agrees with everything on this, but these are some widely held beliefs.

Sounds like a society without "free will" to be honest.

What is free will and when is it appropriate to use or not use it?

This thread is bound to implode. It is almost impossible to discuss politics without rude and harsh comments towards other people's argument that is opposite to our own.
US politics in a nutshell: Team red vs team blue. Fight to the death.

To be honest, I don't really believe in free will. I put it in quotations for that reason.
I believe in Determinism.

Also, these two teams spent a combined total of almost 7 billion dollars last election cycle. If you find you're more of a 'purple' team kinda guy good fucking luck chump because you will not be able to compete with that kind of money. And if there is one thing team red and blue agree on, it's that we don't want any purple motherfuckers taking away our votes. The media will ignore you, the people will ignore you, and you will end up with 0.05% of the vote.

The odds of creating a successful third party in American politics is a long shot. The closet thing we see today is the Tea Party caucus on the Republican side and the Socialist caucus we see on the Democrat side.
