Hey guys, so i didnt know where to put this in (this seemed the most related)so move it as required. So i was wondering how hard it is to screw up on growing san pedro from seed, for example. mushrooms take the tiniest bit of contamination in the inoculation stage and their done. i did a bit of looking around and i couldnt really find anything of that much use.. (TEK) also soil, what would be best, this one said just use a premixed cactus soil from the store while another said regular potting soil, grit, and peet? (its a moss or someshit) any help would be appreaciated (just link me to a good tek if you can, preferabbly with pictures if there is one) thanks -psychking

Hi Psychedelicking,
Having never grown mushrooms I can't speak to a relative ease between the two, however growing cacti from seed is not extremely difficult. I think the biggest hurdle is the fact that most seedlings take several years after germination before they start to grow very quickly. Google takeaway tek, this is the most popular and successful method I have seen for growing cacti from seed. As far as potting mix goes everybody seems to have their own preference. I'd recommend starting with a cacti mix, remove large pieces from the mix (especially wood or bark), and add some sand and pumice to the mix.

Hey! Trichs are pretty easy to grow. I've even transplanted 2 week old seedlings with minimal loss. The helpful links section in this subforum has some good teks. Here's my way of doing things if you're interested.
seed starting mix like foxfarm light warrior natural seed starter large seedlings tray with humidity domes that can self vent T5 ho flouros Quality mister/spray bottle 70% shade cloth Seedling heat mat with thermostat set to 75 16/8 light cycles House thermostat at 78
Sow seeds on top of soil and mist daily.
Its an expensive ass hobby but i love it. Best of luck!

Check out our grow logs sub forum. There's a few grows in there to get an idea of what it entails. I'd post links but on a tablet and it's a pita.

I hadn't grown a thing until about three months ago and I'm getting a fairly good germination rate. My advice: go for it! I'd suggest using a variety of methods in a test run to see what works best for you. Currently I'm germinating San Pedros on inorganic sand and perlite, and a mixture of cactus soil, sand, and perlite. I'm spraying the inorganics with diluted cacti fertilizer, and they're the easiest method for me so far (All of my attempts to grow them on just cactus soil and perlite have failed due to algae).
