If he had the votes he'd have already done so.
Plus, it'd bite him on the ass after the 2014 elections.
The polls alone should be enough to make him think twice.

So, I clearly "misunderestimated" Feckless Harry's stupidity and shortsightedness.
Looks like he read the polls and realized this may be his last chance to pack the courts.
The wailing will be sweet come the 2014 elections.

Apparently he HAD the votes and there's no need to think about it.

Just a few years ago Ole Harry said the filibuster is an integral part of our system. But Demokkkrats do whatever they think might help them at the time. All these left wingers were in support of keeping the filibuster while they were the minority. My how they change.

Come on now Kevin.. Do you ever think for yourself? Or do you seriously just repeat what the left says without even thinking? Hypocrisy has made the lefts poll numbers drop like a rock lately. But I am sure you would say that isn't true either huh? I do get a kick out of the phrases and info you post, as most of it is word for word what some lefty on tv said that day.

Polls only mean something to the media. There is NO poll this far out from any election that means squat. Americans have short memories.

Yeah, dude I don't know about this. You know how Bush poisoned his party in the subsequent elections. This is worse, much worse. Obama managed to tank in approval rating despite being mostly defended by the mainstream media. All the scandals, the blatant lies- hey if you like your insurance, you can keep it. Uh, I mean, if you like your insurance and the policy didn't change- then you can keep it. Um, I mean, if WE like your insurance, you can keep it.
Yeah, no, this is a last gasp and desperate attempt to remain relevant. Harry Reid is many things, but he isn't stupid.

Here's something for you
There are:
390 seating Fed Judges appointed by republicants presidents
390 seating Fed Judges appointed by dem presidents
93 vacant Fed Judge positions and they are going to be filled with Obama's picks just because Mitch wanted to play games with the latest three judge nominees.
Republicants want to play games and hold up nominees for a year or more and then have them unanimously confirmed. The Bullshit stopped today.

Richard Gary Taranto nominated Nov'11 to the Fed Circuit Court of Appeals. Republican'ts declare he needs a SUPERMAJORITY to be confirmed. On 15 MARCH 2013 he is confirmed 91-0
Judge Robert Bacharach nominated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, who previously served as a U.S. magistrate judge on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma, waited 263 days for a Senate floor vote. Finally the Senate confirmed Bacharach’s nomination by a vote of 93-0.

I just don't think this guy understands that the senate was designed to produce gridlock. The senate acts as a check to the power of the executive.
Well, not anymore I guess. I suppose the OP is ok with this because it is "his" party that is making this unprecedented power grab. Little does the op realize that the leadership of "his" party doesn't give a flying bleep about people like him. Such is the folly of the two party system, it has degenerated into something like a good damn sports rivalry. George Washington was right. We are screwed.

Obama was rated the most liberal Senator. Republicans were elected to stop him. Opposing Obama is their electoral duty to their constituents and his race is a smoke screen for assholes who cannot come to grips with the liberal cunt's grotesque incompetence.

I call it tryting to Vet out asshats that are getting appointed to judgeships not because they are necessarily good and fair judges but because they are political hacks who tow the party line. Both sides do it.

The real problem is the lifetime tenure for district court judges. I understand the logic for the SCOTUS, but I definitely don't for trial judges.

District judges are trial judges. In the federal system, a district court is a trial level court...basically, the nuts and bolts court where shit gets done. Lawsuits are filed there. Trials happen there. Criminal cases are brought there, etc. Above the district courts are the Circuit Courts of Appeal. There are 13 circuit courts and they hear appeals from the district courts in that circuit's geographic region. Circuit courts are appellate courts. They don't hold trials. They only hear appeals. Above the circuit courts is the SCOTUS...you already know about that court. It also doesn't hold trials (except in exceptional cases)...it is an appellate court as well.
The reason the SCOTUS has lifetime tenure is so that the judges don't have to worry about the popularity of their decisions when rendering opinions about our Constitution(which is specifically designed NOT to be easily changed)
Trial courts, on the other hand, don't make binding precedent, so there's no need for them to have that amount of judicial independence. They SHOULD be more accountable to the people.

i thought a decision by any court could become a precendent?
Also, so if a case is heard in an appelate court, and they say 'well, this guy was convicted wrongly because they used tainted evidence' or something like that, what happens then? Say if they overturn the conviction, does the lower court try him again?

Possibly. The appellate court could just dismiss the case outright, or they could alter the judgment, depending on the circumstances.
And no, a trial court's decision isn't precedential over any other court. The only precedential effect is has is under the "law of the case doctrine" wherein a court's decision is binding on that same court for future decisions in that same case.
Even a circuit court of appeals decision is only binding on courts in that circuit. It isn't even binding on state courts unless it is based on federal law or the constitution.
