this hobby pushed me over the edge

I've been wanting a good pressure canner for a while for a number of different projects - I do a lot of fermenting and pickling but have not had the ability to do preserves. It was never enough of a need for me to spend the $ on a nice pressure canner, but oh how I have wanted one... then I started getting into this hobby.
My 15.5 qt All American is en route
Pretty excited, I've got agar and some other gear coming in the mail and some edible cultures from a friend. Anyway, thanks shroomery for justifying my investment in more fun equipment. You guys rock. So much to learn.

Pour agar plates, get a swipe or drop of spores on em, and do transfers to get several colonized petris from one of them. Inoculate master grain jars with agar wedges from the petris, then once they colonize, g2g from there 2 or 3 times into as much jars or bags as you got.
From one spore droplet(syringe) or swipe(print) onto a petri, you can get A LOT of culture going, just keep taking prints and buying more agar/petris. Take spore prints and start over again on more agar; isolate strains. win.
Wish you luck.

This is the plan. I've learned enough to see that whether I'm doing cubes or another active species, edibles or medicinals - agar and G2G are going to give the best results in terms of isolating genetics, isolating clean myc, transfer of healthy myc to grain, expansion of the culture etc. You guys have me convinced, hence the AA heading north into Canada as we speak.

With certain species that dont take too kind to a shake at 20-30%, growers have inoculated a LC with an agar wedge so when you inoculate some grains with the LC, it gives way more inoculation points and usually will fully colonize the grains without needing a shake. Like said above, growers will do this with certain species that dont take kind to a shake
This is the only situation i would see LC coming in handy. And still, you would prep the LC from an agar wedge under sterile technique and test the LC first as well to make sure you didn't invite contams while introducing the agar wedge or while aspirating it into syringes.

Haha thanks cronicr. Super inspired by so much I see on here. My second batch of PF tek are consolidating right now - hopefully they turn out better than my first batch of non-fruiters. But either way it's going to be agar, G2G and bulk grows from now on.
When I open my closet I see a sack of WBS and a sack of wheat berries, a 32 qt mini-monotub ready to go, 3 bricks of coir, several pounds of shredded straw, vermiculite, hpoo, aspen shavings, a huge sack of hardwood pellets, agar, mason jars with SFD lids and injection ports, LME, gypsum, a SGFC, a SAB, alcohol lamp, spray bottles, a fan, that brand new AA PC, a shiitake culture, an oyster culture, a few varieties of cube on agar and a copy of Paul Stamets "The Mushroom Cultivator" I bought when I was 14 (14 years ago) when I first attempted a grow.
Stoked to be set up finally! I'll post some of my grows in the new year as I isolate and grow out these cultures.
Peace.
