Growing on beans

Bit of a noob question, but could you colonise directly on tinned kidney beans or similar? They are tinned so sterile and all you would need to do is pierce a hole in the top and inject your spores.

I am a noob as well and have wondered the same thing. PCing a bad of pinto's or something. I have not UTFSB yet to see if anyone has posted on this topic. I will be interested in what others have to say, although I have'nt ran across anyone saying they have done it.

1. Please use the search posts function before asking a question. Your question has already been asked and answered hundreds of times, so don't think you're going to get a better answer by asking it again. In the 'search posts' link at the top of the page, you can select an individual user or the trusted cultivator group as a whole to filter results to come only from them.

That's kinda what I figured and why I wrote what I did. I am a master of UTFSB!

I used the search function but i couldnt find anyone who has tried this method. I didn't mean sterilising my own beans, I meant cutting out the sterilising process altogether by draining the water from a can of beans e.g. Red kidney beans or black eye beans then inoculating directly to these.
I guess you would have the problem of not being able to see when they were collonised but would water content be too high?

Also bean juice is quite sugary so it may even work as a pseudo LC mix that is already in a sterilised container

The can is filled with water and beans, and vaccuum sealed.. i dont believe it is sterile..just no oxygen in it for bacteria to grow on.. but lets say it is sterile, how are you gonna keep it that way after punching a hole in a vacuum sealed can that will pull air in when you open it?

in a SAB use a clean nail, punch a hole apply filter such as polyfil or tyvek, inject and let us know what happens...

Hmm good question, I assumed it was sterile as food is often cooked within the can to preserve it. I guess it may be possible to clean the outside with alcohol or bleach then puncture the can through a wad of alcohol soaked paper?
Similar to the PF tec which also has holes in the lid
If this method worked it would be a very easy way to make large amounts of LC or bean based spawn and as tinned beans are really cheap here in the UK it wouldn't matter too much if contains were higher than usual
