I never believe things to be true unless there's a proof. Maybe there's some huge numbers that break it or something.

I don't really know how to prove it, it seems intuitive to me.  If n is a natural number then so is (n+1)?  I might put some effort into it but I'm about to go to bed, and it kinda sucks trying to type proofs on a keyboard anyway

if you just love math

check out MIT open courseware on google.... free University lessons

you better read up on all your high school stuff first though so it is 100% by feel

interesting stuff if you want to read math/physics/chemistry etc.. I think they got a lot of different stuff

unlock your brain :-)

math is universal language... and very elegant proofs often, even the simplest proofs

there are no simple proofs in math

peace

its fuckin hard to be a teacher you always need good grades

its one of those things math nerds are for

you can try but it gets harder with physics 2 and probability

"It just seems intuitive" can only mean one thing in math. Proof by contradiction.

But there do exist theorems which are true yet are impossible to prove, its been proven.  But of course you would be right to remain skeptical on the truth of an non-provable theorem.

All of my math education has come formally...calculus, differential equations, physics & engineering math. I've had success with learning both in traditional settings and online settings, and it really just comes down to whether you're putting in the practice time, in my experience.

I had to take a crap load of math classes for 2 of my degrees.  I fucking hate math. Struggled like hell. I am good at coming up with working solutions for mechanisms out of thin air and then the math fucks me. Thankfully the other engineer I usually worked with was a math genius and sucked at visualization of systems so I came up with the system and he did the math. We made a great team. I could come up with a whole system in my head and he could make it work. Either one of us could do it separately but together the final project was much better. I have a notebook that is my "cheat sheet" with all the formulas I should know but dont.

For all those who know advanced math,

Do you find it helps you explain some of the phenomena that happen while tripping?

nobody knows what happens when you trip, but the closest scientific explanation iirc , is portions of your brain shut off due to decreased blood flow

I dont need a scientific explanation to experience it :-)

where does the hallucinations come from? ... dunno
how can I be astonished by my own brain? ... dunno (mckenna quote)

try it , experience it, turn the analytic part of your brain off ;-)
just trip

try a level5, then you may be surprised, there is lots science cannot explain yet
and try some psytrance (youtube) for the trip... helps better trips without overanalyzing

theory 1: the brain is the filter of the universe, not the generator of the universe.

theory 2: the universe is made of math.

theory 3: psychedelics decrease brain filters

therefore,

universe + brain filters = quantified math

universe - brain filters = unquantified math

(quantified math limits what we can see to what we can understand)

(unquantified math does not care what you understand)

brain filters + psychedelics = quantified unquantified math & unquantified quantified math (paradox loop)

psychedelics = see more math

OK, here is one for you gamblers.  You are betting on coin tosses.  The coin flip has landed on heads 9 times in a row.  Your betting partner says he will bet you 5 to 1 that the coin flip won't land on heads on the tenth flip.

Do you take the bet?

probabilities don't really work over time like that. it would make more sense to say they flipped 9 individual coins one time.. so then the probability would stand as one whole system rather than a bunch of individual ones.

either way the probability is always 50/50 with a two-sided coin.

i wouldn't take any bets with a rigged coin and it's most probable that a coin that lands heads 9 times in a row is a rigged coin

Yeah, I little confusing saying the tenth flip. Do you mean the next flip?

Anytime someone offers you more than 2 to 1 odds on a single coin flip, no matter their position.. You take it.

Correct!  The coin flip has landed 9 times in a row on heads.  Now, the odds of the tenth flip are still 50-50 so of course you take the odds.  The probability of any single coin flip is always 50-50.

Now, if he had wanted to bet that the coin would land 10 times in a row on heads, thats another animal entirely.

But if, starting on the first flip, he bet that the tenth flip would be heads, that is still the 50-50 probability of a random coin flip.
