Out of body experiences; real or not real? Your opinion and ideas pls
    #19168385 - 11/21/13 01:30 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Just wondering how people who have experienced OBEs take the experience on-board. Is it a hallucination, a dream, or is it actually happening and a kind of proof of an afterlife? Also talk a little of what interests you about the experience if you liek.

Little exists in the way of research I don't think so I'd just like to hear what you personally think about your experience.

IMO, the nature of one kind of experience, and its consistency and the fact it is recurring, signals to me some kind of existence of some kind of after-death body and realm, that is still unexplored for me but seems a little uncomfortable so far.
Other kinds of OBEs, suggest to me some kind of design. They are more dream-like and less bizarre and uncomfortable. There seems to be 'fear tests' or objects that drift at you or appear seemingly inside your mind as demons, dark seahorses, witch entities, etc. If you acknowledge these objects as fear tests you are freed from the body. Very interesting...

MY very first time trying to have an OBE I did it.

I put on some headphones, and I listened to this repeating track of really soft drums...

I spent about 15 minutes laying down, breathing slowly and imagining from the bottom of my feet all the way up to my head, part by part getting more and more relaxed. Then when I was completely relaxed I imagined in my mind that I was walking up these stairs, each stair that I climbed I would get lighter and lighter, until I reached the 10th and at that moment all I could see inside my mind was a bright light, like it just all of a sudden turned on..Then I started to vibrate and could hear a loud buzzing noise, and then at that moment I literally felt myself float up towards the ceiling, it was absolutely amazing but I freaked out and lost it after about 3-4 seconds.

All my attempts afterwards only resulted in getting that loud buzzing noise and my body would vibrate, the first attempt was the best one.

How does one define real when reality is created by the observer?

--------------------
And thus begins the  reverse-fusing of our one-dimentional understanding, and adds ever-expanding perspectives, in depth and number; splitting our perception, and in so doing, seemingly irrationally, creates yet more one-ness, with all that ever was, is and will ever be, streching across the infinite, inunderstood concept of everything, percievable and not.

I'd say it was as real as what I'm experiencing right now.

I'd say the obe I've had were probably dreams because my room usually appears slightly off from my waking room. ie. a door will be open that when I wake up was actually shut.

I've had OBEs while on LSD.  For me, they were quite wonderful.  Quite liberating.

They were, of course, sensory hallucinations.  My brain "knew" the concept of "OBEs" from all the literature I've read over the years, so my subconscious is/was primed for them.

Very similar, I suspect, to the "near-death experience" hallucinations people have.

If your subconscious mind is primed for it, you'll experience it.

real is just a trigger in the brain

but real to me is what I accept blindly or from thoughts...

seems I got a history in most LDs, Im back where I went to sleep, can walk around etc.

as real as this reality
LDs often feel more real than this one... since you can see the illusions of the brain
i.e. floating upwards from your body seeing it from above

This^

My OBEs were always preceded by a loud buzzing noise and bodily vibration and then I would just "pop" and find myself in this astral type world where I was just a small point of awareness floating through my house but there'd be shit in my house that wasn't there in the real world, like a blue scorpion in my cereal bowl.

often the only time I find out that Im dreaming is when I suddenly start to float

or if I jump out from a building

you cant die in LDs, thats how real they can be
often get a sense something isnt quite right, so jump out and then I can fly

bad reality check...

but sometimes it is due to remembering that I am being at a previous place I lived and then I jump out the window after being chased by an entity

not always though... just have some sense that it is a dream

free your mind ;-)

but yeah... always weird noise, feeling very heavy, entities/shadows, then walking around, light switches not working, then starting to float often, when the dream is at home

my light switch RC always fails for me... I dont do it IRL enough..
often change light bulbs in my dreams, or try all light switches, without even thinking it is weird

How did I get here?
Is it likely I am here today?
Does my environment make sense?
Do I have a history here?
Do light switches work?
Are things physical?
etc.

(people have gotten crazy from doing too many RCs I heard:-P)

You're talking about lucid dreaming, not OBEs. I have a ton of experience with lucid dreams, and they are qualitatively different that astral projection.

The major difference to me is that I have a body in lucid dreams and in astral travel I am a flying point of light.

I have noticed the doors being shut, room rearranged, etc. thing... I don't think it's enough to suggest it is not real, I think it suggests it is complex, like there is some other dimension to what is occurring, some other life almost.

It's a possibility. I like to side with the simpler answer, though. We have evidence for dreams, we don't have evidence of an alternate reality where there's slight changes in how our rooms are laid out.

However I understand where Circastes is coming from, OBEs feel qualitatively different than a lucid dream.

Might not be an alternate reality, but it is not the same thing as a dream.

OBE,LD,AP

3 different concepts apparently? pretty confusing :-)

with a LD I usually have a flying body?

they start as normal everyday living, but suddenly I start to float/fly

have once tried AP I think... saw my body from above, from the ceiling
my view on what is real changed from that day many years ago ;-)

was early in the morning I think, still remember it a bit, probably 20 years ago

LD/AP seems to require much relaxation, and seems to work best for me in the morning
no magic way to get there, except living a clean non stressing lifestyle helps it seems
and quiet sleeping environment, the quieter the better
doing any drugs would reduce them a lot for a while after it seems, especially if smoking weed, no dreams after that

the interesting is I seem to have them 1-2 times a year or so my whole life
but with practice that is up to a/several LDs every 1-2 months, dream journal helps and relaxing/WILD+binaural beats

feels pretty real, always feel real, until you realize it is not, but then it still feels real :-)
