Probably not azures
    #19167417 - 11/20/13 08:37 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

The extraordinary ones growing out of the side of the tree were "picked" (I actually had to use scissors)in a park about 20 minute's drive south of Astoria.

The others -- there seem to be 3 distinct varieties -- were growing not in dune grass but in these "islands" (for lack of a better term) where the grass stopped and there were these heavily shaded areas with a thick growth of low-slung conifers and a lot of pine needles and other detritus on the ground.

I was really excited that I'd picked a large number of azures because in my mind what I was observing looked like what I'd seen on this site and in books. Now that I've had a chance to look them over more closely, I'm pretty convinced that they aren't azures. There has been no bluing reaction whatsoever.

Did you upload some pics which you have not set "shared"?  From the pictures I can actually see in you gallery, none are active.  Just a lot of Mycena/Marasmiellus, Psathyrealla, Hypholoma, and possibly Bolbitius.

Tried to upload pics, which I've done before, but it was a struggle.

Didn't mean to post without pics.

Thanks for the IDs though.

The search goes on...

How do you difference between Inocybe and Cortinarius when it comes to little brown-gilled mushrooms that look like these?

I only try to ID mushrooms if the OP already knows what it is.

Gill color - Cortinarius has rustier brown gills while Inocybe gills get a dark tan in age.
