first still air box

I just finished up a ghetto still air/glove box. Its not the best but i have the feeling itll work for what im doing.
I still have a few days until i noc up my jars so i figured id post here & get some feedback.

I just took a clear tub & burned holes thru with a hot coffee can, then used 32oz stryofoam cups to attatch the gloves & sleeves. I sealed one cup on with a glove & then read something about attatching the gloves creating a vaccum & just made a sleeve on the other side with a cut garbage bag & electrical tape & left it unsealed. I figured id just put the other glove on & reach thru the sleeve.
Im a little worried to start though because one of my rye jars has a smell to it thru the plastic around it, almost like garbage, the rest dont smell at all. Im not sure if its contammed or if thats just how rye smells since ive never worked with it before. The jars were bought presterilized with a ge patch & a self healing injection port because i didnt want to screw up the water content preparing it myself & didnt have time.

Gloves should be on your hands, not attached to the box.
You want to stick your gloved/sleeved hands thru the holes in the SAB.

Ya i know im supposed to be using tyvek sleeves but i didnt want to order them & have no idea where to buy them & i dont wanna have to buy a whole tyvek suit.
If i take the one glove off & do another sleeve with a garbage bag it should be good right? I wasnt sure if tyvek was used for a particular reason or thats just the preferred material

The glove i did attatch was just to keep the hole closed so no air wasnt flowing in. I realized my mistake after it was attatched & just made a sleeve on the other side. Im detatching it from the box before i work.

My local mushroom cultivation supply shop has good prices on tyvek sleeves and other Cultivation related goodies. They have an online store. Just Google Asheville fungi and check them out

You CAN have a glove box but a still air box is easier to work with. Especially when the fingers arent all bulky.
As for the one jar that smells funny, dont use it OR save it for later and by itself, inoculate with the last ml. It is most likely contaminated though and you should throw it. Btw, take the bags off, thats just stale air. You know the sterilized them and then put the bags on right. Its not like the outside of the jars are sterile. Just wipe down with 70% when youre ready

Ya i figured the bags werent doing much. Im just really paranoid about contamination because my last grow i got a lot of moldy jars. I contacted the vendor & asked about the smell a few minutes ago so the bags will stay on incase i have to return the jars & get new ones

So, if i remove the glove, use the plastic sleeves i made, then use a mixtire of hot soapy water & bleach to wipe down the inside, let it settle for an hour or 2 Then put all my tools & jars inside & wipe everyrhing down with bleach water again & wait an hour & start working Will my box work well enough to keep out any contams?
It seems like it would work fine to me but im not an experienced grower so my opinion doesnt count for much

You dont even need bleach. The idea is for it to work on still air. However I do wipe done everything with 70%, load it up and give it twenty minutes for everuthing to settle before working

The bleach is just an extra precaution. Id like to use iso but i dont feel like going out to pick it up right now & bleach isnt going to catch on fire in my box. Bleach should be just as effective as iso shouldnt it?
& that smell on the jar was the bag. I took it off & the smells gone.

Bleach is fine it's just not nessicary. And if you use Iso your box won't catch fire because in a SAB you should not have flame inside there. The current from the heat would make the air no longer still.
The plastic sleeves will make you sweaty but they do the same job as tyvek.
