used pf cake put in pasturized coir

can i put used pf cake in pasturized coir ? I know that i should already know this one but I don't. Bottom line if it still smells like fresh mushies can I spawn it to bulk? Thanks for the help.

I'm wondering the same thing. What is the fail rate? I cut the outer myc away from a couple cakes after they were done fruiting and set them back in the fc and the mycelium is healthily growing and covering the outside of the cakes like their do when fresh.. seems if you did this, risk of contam would be cut way back.

Yes.
Crumble and treat like grain spawn.
Some people even use a cheese grater.

I suppose it would depend on how 'used' it is. Aged mycelium will colonize slower than fresh mycelium that hasn't been fruited. Personally I don't think it'd be worth the trouble of preparing the substrate but I always bury my semi-spent substrates outside, and if I had a pile manure or something I'd certainly be burying them in that.
