getting more mutants
    #19164797 - 11/20/13 11:45 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

hi guys, on one of my Mazatapec i noticed one of the pins looks very strange. i guessing this is a mutant?

well my question is if i take the genetics from the mutant will it increase my chances of getting more.

what would be better, cloning it or, will taking a print suffice?

IMO we need to do away with using the term mutant for deformed fruits due to environment. IMO most mutants that we see are deformities caused by a host of environmental causes. Back when I was first growing I was using a reptile lamp left over from when I had chameleons. Got loads of mutants. Cloned a few of them too, and loved em. Then one day the lamp died and I replaced it with a regular cfl bulb that did not have any UV in the spectrum. Have only seen a couple mutants since.

IMO it should only be called a mutant if all environmental factors can be ruled out

OP that looks less like a mutant to me and more like an abort.

i have around 12 cakes in the chamber, and this is the only one with different looking pin on it so i'm pretty sure it's not due to environmental factors, also on the same cake there is few normal looking shrooms.

i'm hoping it's not an abort, it's getting bigger every day but growing very slowly, so i'm thinking it's not.

I don't think it's an abort but I'm guessing the 'torn' appearance is environmental. I always try to clone weird looking fruits rather one at random just for shits and giggles. Sometimes it will produce batches of mushrooms with the same or similar deformities.
