Smartphones, worth it?

So I just got an samsung ativ s. I can see the many benefits owning a smart phone has but is it worth it. I find myself getting an ever increasing short attention span because of always having something to do. They are very fragile too. However, I now have a respectable camera, a good internet access device and a good note keeper. How do you feel about them?

It's very smart touching a screen with your fingers. Also everyone that films concerts and is looking more to their screen then listening to the music should die in a fire.

fancy phone that breaks easily

I didn't say it's smart. I also believe this is another disadvantage, losing moments of life because your doing something with your phone.

Definitely worth it. They make life so much easier, fun, and efficient.

I like mine for its gps and music capapbilities. I don't do a whole lot else with it that I didn't do with my dumb phone besides use it for checking emails.
And I have had my droid razr M for over a year and have never had a case on it. Yea it has a few dings on the corners from dropping it quite a few times, but nothing has broke on it. Now if you get an iphone you are guaranteed to break it if you don't have a crazy case on it. Iphones are such a scam.

Put in a nice case, they're worth it. Not a gimmicky case that makes your phone look cool, go for durability.
> However, I now have a respectable camera, a good internet access device and a good note keeper. How do you feel about them?
It's incredibly convenient... being able to internet everywhere. Look into a house camera anytime, check on animals, setups, etc. Send computer commands to my home desktop while I'm on a bus somewhere. Turn on lights or stereo if I enter my front door while carrying the device. Reading books is not bad on it, you just need a good app to convert online articles into something eligible . I read PDFs on mine while using a pad and paper to take notes. I can't stand typing on the keyboard and won't ever enjoy using it when posting anything of length. Try getting into a habbit of taking audio notes with it and see how it works for you.

i think if you're upholding a busy life and have a motor vehicle, smartphones are great to have. you can get directions, numbers, and take pictures and have access to valuable info. if not, they arent much worth it

No worse than losing moments of your life because you're posting something on the Shroomery. Go skydiving or something.

I love my iPhone. I can't complain.
I'm not a picky guy to be honest, I don't favor a smartphone over another. I just pick the one that comes with the package and I'm happy. Couldn't care less about about the brand or whatever.
To me a phone is like a car. Will it get me to point A to point B. If yes then I don't give a damm about color, brand, horsepower, cilynder and all that useless info. Gas efficiency is the only thing that matters to me. For a phone, if it cost less than the other, I'm getting it

For me it is definitely worth it. I just recently bought a new one. $300 taxes included, no contract. Just a midrange samsung running android 4.2
I use my phone for its camera, music playing, keeping in contact, as well as I tether it to my computer to use my mobile data. My plan at only $40/month has unlimited data, so I've been able to ditch my internet hardline and save over $80/month.
As for them being fragile, some can be, I avoid glass screens for this reason, they like to crack and the cracks propagate. The phones with plastic screens I find to be more durable, and when they crack, it tends to be a single crack that doesnt spread.

I am skeptical of any phone with an inaccesible sim card and I think NSA can probably remotely activate microphones but smartphones are kinda nifty if you are a screen junky and like to play games and shit. /2c

That is one of the most ridiculous arguments I have ever heard against iPhones. They have a smaller 4" screen which makes them FAR less likely to break than 5"+ Android monstrosities. Where do you even get this stuff from? The newest iPhone has tested as being more durable than the S4 and HTC One, the two most popular Andrtoid phones, in almost every test I've seen. The bias on here is out of control
I have used both Android and iPhones, never with a case, and I've NEVER broken a phone in my life.
