meditation/spiritual practice and hallucinogens

Hi all,
I hope I've posted this in the right place. I'm wondering if any of you use entheogens as spiritual practice or part thereof? I was reading recently about a woman who is part of a Peyote church in the U.S. who meditates while chewing a button. Obviously this is a low dose, probably below a threshold dose even, but perhaps the meditative act works in tandem with it to elicit the spiritual experience?
I'm not sure what I'm saying here, beyond being interested in having a discussion about entheogens and spirituality
-------------------- “To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never to forget.”

Yes good stuff. They go hand in hand for me. Although sometimes my definition of spiritual may be different from that of others. Sometimes enjoying the best of times with friends at a festival is the most spiritual experience. Other times sitting on a cushion burning incense is the most spiritual experience.

Pretty much this. I consider them spiritual to me, but my definition of spirituality may be loose compared to how others perceive it.

It'd be interesting to have a poll (haven't seen it) about what proportion of people use for which purpose mainly.

thanks for your replies so far everyone, i agree so much that spiritual experience, like everything, is individual and subjective. I wonder then what use you find entheogens have in your spiritual practice? Personally I feel and enjoy experiencing a connection to nature, not just taking substances but in life generally, tending my garden and watching life and nature doing its thing etc. For me the connection between entheogens and nature is pretty central. I'd like to have an experience of ego death but I don't think I'm ready for that at this point. I suspect that hallucinogens can unlock mental blocks and help individuals resolve life problems simply by means of allowing us to think differently. Of course other people feel that plants have spirits which communicate with them e.g. san pedro, peyote which if true is pretty awesome
