How come? What would you recommend for me? A first timer trying to get a taste of success ASAP without risking it all. Once I get my first flush I'm going to take it slow and work on yield and massive potent fruits.

I'll try 1:1 first though. Sounds like a solid choice.

More 'nutes' with mushroom growing can lead to contamination and mutant blobs instead of real mushrooms. 1:3 is a good ratio for beginners to get a good cross between performance and yield.
As you gain experience, you can use less and less spawn, thus getting far more product out of your grain spawn. I use 1:10, but that's after enough experience to always have the moisture content exactly right, the spawn pure, and the substrate properly pasteurized or sterilized. RR

I've read simmering WBS with cracked corn will make it sticky. Use the value brand WBS from Wal-Mart. It's in a white bag with red labeling should be <$10. No cracked corn and cheap. Not sure on the EZ felt but the tek says stiffened so that's what I'd use. You maybe have to re make the jar lids and that sucks, but not as much as a high contam rate later down the road especially if you get one of those contams that hides in jars that look healthy and don't show up until you spawn it. That's a lot more wasted time and materials than bucking up and re-doing some stuff now. Maybe you can double layer the felt you got. Maybe stiffened vs. non-stiffened makes no difference at all.

Im sure it will work, its stiff, but not like cardboard.
If you cant pull it apart with your hands than I'll bet you're fine.
