Yeah I like Ram Dass' stuff
Although at this point I'm not so much into drawn-out explanations of what a thing is for the very reason that you have to feel/be it in order to truly understand it
When I feel it the same words take on an entirely new level of understanding, but in that state I usually feel like doing something besides reading a book
they do help sometimes though, especially when we land really deep in forgetting

I definitely agree that reading words won't necessarily bring to a certain state of mind but when I read through Be Here Now, I would notice I'd ALWAYS be more HERE AND NOW when it came time to put the book down.
It was a great experience reading that book. I have The Only Dance There Is but I haven't started it yet. I'm going to go read that chapter you suggested right now Markos

If you think BE HERE NOW brings you to the Now, read The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. It's the only book I've ever read 5 times! I pick it up and read randomly whenever anxiety is getting the best of me.

I bought that book online a year or so ago and it turns out I actually ordered inspirational cards based on the book
Anyway thanks for the reminder, I'll get around to buying that soon. I have a bit of reading to get through in the mean time though! I will also mention the fact the Eckhart Tolle charges so much ($400 I read in a thread here?) for his talks makes me a bit suspicious of what he actually has to say.

I personally liked be here now because of its unique layout. Most of these books I feel though aren't quite enough, they may point to the truth but fall short in giving us precise instructions in getting there.
There is something to be said about inspiration, but I've come to a point before where I was like: "God enough of all this hippie shit already"
anyway thanks for contributing guys keep on vibin

I just got done reading a very negative thread when i seen "the good vibe thread" and then I said "oh that looks good"
Totally awesome in this thread, I currently can't think of anything with great importance to post at the moment, but i will post a song from explosions in the sky that brings me great joy, as i hope it will for you all as well.

Yes, well, "hippie shit" is some good shit! The layout of BE HERE NOW is designed for before, during, and after a trip. My best friend has a larger, unpublished prototype, with some colors added to it. It is not merely about inspiration, it is about clarification of the Psychedelic Experience, and ways of developing every facet of life ('Cookbook for a Sacred Life') after the Psychedelic Experience.

I own what I assume is a first edition / first printing of the book. I'm old enough to have been there in the late-60s / early-70s, when the connection between drug use (LSD in particular) and mystical experience was first being explored in depth. These were the days when Timothy Leary, Richard Alpert, Alan Watts, etc. were at their creative peaks.
Interestingly (to me at least), I find the book a bit too strident and "militant," if you will, for my tastes today.
I suspect that along with frequent nighttime urination and rising cholesterol levels comes a kind of "mellowing out" of the spiritual impulse. I sort of like it easy and gentle these days. The illustrations in "Be Here Now" sort of freak me out these days.
I dunno...
It may just be me.

Great thread! I'm new here, and I would just like to point out that there is much to meditate positively on at my website, The Divided Quantum. Click below. I think I will like it here...

welcome to the shroomery
about your website, I'd suggest using a different background and/or font color- the black/white contrast is too strong I couldn't read it cause it hurts my eyes to look at it for too long
