also, when will i be able to tell for sure? is there any telltale signs?
i would say your best bet would be to let them colonize then once they have stopped. cut off any areas that haven't colonized then crumble the cakes and spawn to coir and verm. and do a mini bulk grow in a small tray.

don't worry too much. The fact that you have growth at all is a VERY good sign.
Just be patient. It's way to early to tell anything. If you're worried, get some more spores and start another project in case this one doesn't pan out the way you want it to.

Unless they colonize ll the way, then fruit them like normal pf cakes

2 CC's tops. I used 2 for a spawn bag and it worked out just fine but I'm sure you could use 1 and it would work great. Just shake the syringe really well.

On a diff note, take the foil off your jars cuz, that is what the dry verm layer is for.

Hey! 5 days later! growth continues however the pre-sterilized bulk bag and new syringe are on their way. So I suppose im going to have an interesting learning experience. any links to easy maybe mini monotubs that you guys suggest? theres tons on this site that i have read myself. but what has proved to be easiest for you guys? or perhaps would be easier for a first time bulk grow?

crumbling cakes and spawning them to a coir and verm mixture would probably be the easiest bulk grow that you could do.
i myself, have 3 quarts of b+ that i'm going to do this with later on this week.

i'm using this tek right here with some modifications to the tub.

The spawn bag im using is rye grain. Will the coir verm mixture still be effective? the tek you posted, Doc-T said he uses WBS.

you will be fine with rye grain, it will actually colonize the substrate faster than crumbling cakes.
as for the wbs it's pretty much interchangeable with rye grain in any tek, its usually just cheaper to buy.
if you are going to do the coir verm mixture i suggest adding some some spent coffee grounds and some gypsum it should help you colonize faster and add to the over all health of your fruits.

by adding 'some' is there an exact amount i should add? or will it not hurt to go a little over or a little under?

it really just depends on how much of the other ingredients you use. i think the tek i posted in this thread has an exact amount.

honestly coffee ground are uncolonized and could cause contamination if not properly pasteurized. spawning to coir/verm works adding coffee grounds speeds up the colonization but adds more risk for contamination. i wouldn't add them if i were you.

well ive got some bad news, mean green came and knocked up one of my jars. but the other one is very very healthy and progressing. Im going to clean out the jar right away with the mean green with bleach and what not. and i plan on just inoculating it again. I have vermiculite rock, is there anything around the house that i can mix with it to make the substrate better?

I'm sorry, I ain't tryina be a dick er nothin; but you need to do alot more research. One jar will not really be enough to do a bulk grow unless its some type of mini. Best I can suggest is either fruit the cake once it's colonized if it reaches that point. Hope your grow works out for you tho.

Alright good to hear that. I'd deff use the spawn bag for a monotub bro and just fruit the cake as is to get yourself some prints.
