if you don't see any growth after a week or two toss them.

i found it easier to use an Oil-Filled Radiant Portable Heater to get the air around the jars at prime colonization temps.  instead of applying heat directly to the jars which can be bad for them.

Give MS 7-10 days for germination.. although usually you can see some growth between days 3 and 5 it is best to be patient.

Don't use heating pads.

Rule of thumb - If you're comfortable in your house then your mushrooms will be comfortable, as well. Cubensis temps are generally between 60-80F, which is coincidentally the temperature us humans tend to keep our living quarters.

Give them another week and if there are no sigs of growth, toss 'em.

if you have them on a heating pad: yeah you should be worried.
Won't take too long before your jars are all dried out.
Next time use a tub in tub incubator if it's freezing cold in your area and you can't afford heat,
or just let them colonize on a shelf.
