For those who watch The Walking Dead

I have been catching up on this series and there is one thing I just dont get. Alright so they find out that they are all infected anyways so even if they die of natural causes they will still come back as a zombie...
So why the fuck does them getting "bit" by a zombie kill them and make them turn? It doesnt make sense that a bite will kill them when they are already infected anyways. Once they are "infected" shouldnt they just keel over and die anyways?
Maybe I am missing something but to me it seems like there is a flaw in the way this shit was written

Interesting point. I guess that there could be two different strains of the infection--one that is airborne and one that is fluid-borne. What I don't get is how there isn't anyone alive who is able to find out a single goddamn thing about the infection. I'd be able to tell you whether it's viral, bacterial, or fungal in a few hours tops. Derp.
Whatever. It's all going to be and by MXE i mean Aliens in the end and we all know this.

I suppose one way of saying it is, the airborne virus that everybody has lies dormant and activates undead animation upon death, whereas the virus entering the bloodstream through a bite or scratch causes the reanimation process to begin immediately.

I would say its just chilling in there blood stream in till something activates the cause for them to die. Like a bite lol. Once they get bit i guess thats when the fever starts

Do people actually become zombies from minor bites in the show? I thought there were examples where they didn't but I might be remembering wrong.

the disease was supposedly airborne so everyone has the virus dormant in their system while the bites act as a catalyst killing them with a high fever and shutting down their internal organs before reviving them as zombies, it's explained in the show.
Fun fact: In the comics nobody has any idea that they're already infected

I think maybe with the bites it's not so much a reanimation of some dead tissue...it's more like a lateral move. Or it's just super fast acting when it hits the bloodstream. I dunno. I know they call it walking dead and the people "die" before they reanimate. But for them to be animate, they technically can't be dead, they're just functioning in a state that is unknown to science...supposedly. The guy at the CDC had knowledge that the general population didn't have, maybe there's more to it.
Edit: whoa holy shit, I'm too drunk to keep up with the pace of the pub tonight

It's a polypeptide chain written out in their zombie DNA that comes out as an enzyme that converts all human's normal cells into zombie stuff.

it's zombies man, it's just how it is. there isn't some actual scientific fact behind it because zombies don't exist!
and no, this season has been great.

I always thought that finding a smaller town and taking over an apartment building would be awesome, break down the staircase and use rope ladders and shit instead.

yeah, Apartment building is good too, if you prepare it right. if not, it can become a death trap. there should be a fire escape, in case of emergency; or like you said rope ladders... how do you destroy the staircase? explosives are too dangerous, and could cause irreparable damage to the building.

I've steadily lost interest in the show more and more as the seasons go on. I used to download it right when it came out, but lately I haven't been bothering at all, and if I do watch it I don't pay very close attention.

I figure with enough manpower and some sledgehammers you could get the job done.
then it would be about clearing out the buildings room by room, you would then have a rooftop and several other vantage points to look for other hostile survivors or plan routes. And it would be difficult for any humans to invade and all but impossible for zombies.

I've had a group of people ready since high school.
One of them who lives close by, his dad is ex military and deals a fuck ton of guns and fixes up cars/builds them from the ground up, he's got thousands of rounds of ammunition and even explosives just sitting in his garage.
He also said we're all welcome to join him if the zombies ever come

The same way any other disease kills people. It overwhelms their body until the immune system causes the body to virtually kill itself.

I totally agree with this. When the season started, my friends asked me what they thought was going to happen. I responded, "A lot of people I don't care about are going to die."
And what has happened? Exactly that.
Though I'm happy that D'Angelo Barksdale is in it now. Cutty might have to whoop his ass.

why does some members immune system fail at fending off the infection, but others (Rick, or any of the older members) can fend off infection indefinitely? how does the infection live in a undead zombie?

why does some members immune system fail at fending off the infection, but others (Rick, or any of the older members) can fend off infection indefinitely? how does the infection live in a undead zombie?
You have wayyy too many questions. It's TV. Deal with it.
Is everything you see on the news pure science?
wow, relax. i just thought you had the answers, man. apparently you don't so.. big whoop.

I'm pretty calm, no need to get defensive. I wish I had the answers but fiction is fiction, it's by definition a stretch of the imagination.

the "deal with it" , kinda went a bit overboard.
i am dealing with it, i am just curious, though... if i can figure out that the convoluted zombie disease is a deadend, when it comes to making any sense; maybe the shows writers can write something to explain how somethings work, better, so that there are no plotholes. this is how writing a show works. i wonder if there will be plotholes at the end of it's run.

It will make sense if the show doesn't get cancelled before everyone finds out that it was really aliens all along.

point being, no show can be perfect, hence the questioning isn't relevant.

I've always thought that if aliens really did want to invade earth, it would be best to exploit mankind's latent fears. All they have to do is make flyby's in our stratosphere and capture our precious electrons, intercepting all TV and radio signals on earth. They would study us and determine the end-of-the-world scenarios that we have already invented. Therefore, it would be very easy for them to engineer two independent strains of a virus that made it appear as if humans, after dying, would be resurrected as zombies. This would not only create mass chaos on earth and devastate the population, making them easy to conquer, but would leave humans convinced that their worst fears have come true and that it's caused by some kind of supernatural plague, when in reality, it is devious aliens.

hahah thanks for your input on my TWD fanfic. I would be happy to write for TWD if they would have me on their team. Unfortunately, I don't have TV writing experience, just a logical, and perhaps slightly schizophrenic mind. it's the only way I can see zombies making sense in the end.

I also think that it's ridiculous that we haven't seen any military cults. Seriously, there has to be some kind of Navy vessel that was at sea for the whole outbreak of the infection. All it takes is one crazy bible-thumping religious Navy leader to lead a cult of zombie exterminators with real expertise in tactical knowledge and explosives. They would spend their days luring hordes of zombies into giant skyscrapers and commencing a controlled demolition, killing thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of zombies in the process. All you have to do is fly a helicopter to the top of a skyscraper, drop off a bunch of nice fresh meat, and leave a huge sound system to lure them in. This is all after you've placed the explosives, of course.

and not only that they have different modes of action but the same end result???
fuck that.
this bothered me too
I mean, isn't that possible, though? With genotypic/phenotypic similarities? C'mon, like the Herpes Simplex Virus. Except I would argue even though it seems the same end result on Walking Dead, there are some differences.

i love it. see, this is why the internet and youtube exists. make your show! people would watch that for sure.
damn it, writers aren't given enough freedom of expression, with TV. i mean, i'd rather watch crazy zany off-shoots then the real thing anyways... or at least something like that would make what's on TV better. in my opinion, anyway...

the zombie plague could actually be looked at as a comparison to the HIV virus spreading.

the symbolism of the spread of the virus and rabidity of the outbreak is uncanny.

Man Milton was a total dumbass and a total pussy. I don't think he ever completed a single college course. All he did was play COD with Philip "The Governor" all day before the outbreak happened. Same with the CDC guy, none of them knew a goddamn thing about biology.

otherwise they could have led that navy zombie hoard with the Governor! just reach those faint memories and wire up grenades and shit to the zombies and have them train; just hang up some meat slabs and watch the nades fly. eventually the memories gotta become sucinct enough so the zombies reclaim some accounts of war and blowing shit up professional... they won't be as good as they were... but still...

I was thinking more along the lines of weaponized prion disease-rabies hybrid = T-virus.
