Is anyone here on the forums bilingual? Just wondering, I'm interested in learning to read, write and speak in Greek. Would anyone be willing to teach me over the Internet?
Long shot I know but I gotta start somewhere, lol.
Skill for skill guys, come on! Haha.

Probably be better off using Rosetta stone. Very well put together program. They have real people that will help to. It is a little expensive but well worth every penny.

I've heard mainly negative things about rosetta stone. learning a new language is something i'd really like to do too

i know conversational japanese.
rosetta stone and pimsleur are REALLY GOOD for SUPPORT. but if you really want to get fluent, you should really know someone fluent that can spend a lot of time with you or take CLASSES. nothing beats having drills where you learn a few new vocab words, and then have to have a fake dialogue with a random person in front of a whole class every day.
also, it's one thing to understand spoken/written language and another thing entirely to be able to SPEAK IT QUICKLY. you gotta PRACTICE!

I've also heard bad things about Rosetta Stone and I don't have the cash for it, honestly.
Patlal, I really appreciate the offer! I may take you up on that if I can't find anyone who knows Greek. I love the Greek, you see. I don't want to overburden myself because if I begin French and someone can yeah me Greek I would most certainly take up both on top of guitar and multiple instruments and work and I would just be overwhelmed. Give me a week to think it over and see if I can find a Greek mentor. French may be more plausible though since its more popular.

I know. I really believe in the immersion philosophy when it comes to languages, I've always imagined having some like minded friends learn a language with me so we could speak secretly all the time, haha. Would be neat.

Teach yourself via the internet. For the basics anyhow. I know some Greek. Not enough to teach someone though. Mostly common phrases and curse words.

Ha! That would be awesome.
And I could teach myself but I doubt I'd ever speak it fluently if I didn't have someone to jabber on with. I wouldn't complain if I could just learn myself to write an read it.

I'm not bilingo but I speak a few foreign languages.
First of all you need to know the basics of grammar, a certain basic vocabulary and the most important times of frequently used verbs. A descent repertoire of everyday phrases can be a good start.
But for really really learning a language it's talking and writing about things that interest you, so your brain starts to connect your passion with your new language. I highly recommend exchange vacations for that. When you have none around speaking your mother language your mind will be forced not to translate word after word but to produce whole sentences in the foreign language. After one or one and a half weeks there will be a switch turned to greek and you'll be thinking greek, you will even dream in greek and wake up when you're missing a word.

I know French but never ever use it. I downloaded the Rosetta stone so I can brush up every once in a while.
If you don't use a second language, your brain will forget that shit.
