oh yeah, pins took about 10 days to form, is it ok to add more water to perlite? or should I just leave it be? I got 60 more jars ready to go but want to make sure these come out fine first

oh yeah and I have read a lot about pins growing on bottom of cake because that's where the humidity is, but why are a few cakes pinning in too but some are more on sides?

I'm no expert but I think the tiny ones that have already opened are aborts

so should I pick them and redunk the cake? the other ones look fine though don't they? I think the two cakes with the tiny open cap pins are just the problem. a thing I wonder about though is why the other cakes are healthy, I think, but those two have those aborts if they are

They are not aborts more than likely they represent crap genetics as the pins on the other cakes look good

above post I said, they are either gt or Amazon, bought from --------. I mixed up the jars a bit I have so many going, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the other cakes are a different strain, are those pics ok, they have been pinning like that for about 3 days now. the little pins have kinda flat open caps, but I'm wondering if they might continue to grow like that? I was always under the impression that open caps mean they are ready to pick/ drop spores

update, on two of the cakes with the retarded pins, there are some normal ones that have grown out in the last few hours and are already bigger than the retards, so I'm going to assume the cake is ok. one is still on the short bus to fruiting though lol

pics 2&3 are same jar. above I posted a pic if the jar I just birthed it, see above post, it felt like myc, smelled like mushys, I'm dunking it as we speak, that ropy look, looks and feels like the myc that grows onto the verm layer on a birthed cake

thinking those open capped pins were some kind of mutation? they are still growing though from yesterday, any ideas about what to do with them? should I just pluck them and redunk? I don't want them to drop spores, and how and when would they do so? any ideas would be great

these are the fruits I have cut so far. it's good I cut them instead of twisting them from the cake right? and what do you think about the picking time? the veils just barely broke so from all I've read I think it was proper
edit- oh yeah they are pretty small, but im thinking from genetics from mss, I fjnally got a hygrometer today and my rh in sgfc is 99% and temp fluctuates from 72-75

so the ones that open their caps right away and then continue to grow are just weird genetics? still potent and normal to eat? had the exact same thing happen with a cake this week, they kept growing and one ended up being monstrous, have them drying now

This entire post is a trove of bad information. Aero are you saying that his mutated mushrooms on the cake that look similar to PE are that way because the cake is contaminated? I really don't see any contamination in any of those pictures. It looks to me like a normal week 1st flush due probably because the genetics are wore out and there is very little RH. IF you linked some pictures of your grow chamber and set up we might be able to help you with small adjustments if needed.
Just make sure you have as much Humidity as possible in your grow chamber, also allowing evaporation because of fluctuations in air flow and temperature.

Just make sure you are getting proper FAE and you will have good RH and evaporation.
People should focus more on FAE, and less on humidity.....

Hey Ghostshadow you need to edit some of your posts and take out the vendor that you got your spores from since they are sold for viewing under a microscope only. I'm highly surprised that no one has said anything about it by now anyways keep up the good work and post more pictures of your next flushes.

I am pretty sure I did not give out any bad info in this thread just pretty solid info from my own experience and what I have learned from more experienced growers on the site...
That myc DOES look weird but if it does not smell weird then just see what happens I guess...I'm surprised those minis grew bigger - funny thing is that NOW they look like aborts (very dark caps). All aborts I have ever experienced have been tiny with unopen caps and any shrrom I ever had with an open cap did not grow any more.
Therefore.... I no longer feel like I know what I am talking about with yr cakes so all I can say is...... good luck!

mine look/looked very much like this. just harvested first flush from one cake... just watch the caps. even though there was no veil on mine, once the edges of the cap had turned up enough it dropped a bunch of spores just like a normal mushroom...
still very interested as to what causes this. I have two more cakes that are growing mushrooms in a similar way, and they haven't stopped growing... getting quite large actually...

I picked them today and going to redunk them tonight, hoping second flush goes a little better, the other fresh cakes I added are doing nicely, looks like already overtaking the rolling verm layer, so hopefully they pin soon

so I have already harvested a first flush and having some cobweb mold problems I think, anyone have any ideas of whether this is cobweb? or is it just fuzzy myc? it's underneath the cakes and I've killed it with some h202 a few times but just keeps coming back. is it possible to just set the cakes on the sides so the bottoms get fresh air? will that work?
